If Bush won't use some of the reserve, he could at least stop ADDING to it until prices get better. And the President did get his energy plan...more profits of oil companies. Mergers that mean more gouging, less choices for consumers. Rush Limbaugh also should be feeling pretty good about his selfish, self-serving, influence on the dittoheads to make them think that liberals are wrong for pushing for conservation.

Karma is a bitch!

1. A friend who just returned from England
said that petrol there is up over USD 7.00 per gallon. Even if that's an imperial gallon (slightly bigger than a US gallon, I think?) that's still pretty darn high.

Of course, it's not a very big island....

2. I have heard that for each penny gasoline goes up in price....
it brings in a billion dollars in revenue. For each penny of Federal taxes collected, would that also be a billion dollars. If so, how much of a "tax increase" has Bush slipped on us with this increase in gas prices???

3. Gas tax remains constant per gallon, not by price.
All the increases go to someone besides Uncle Sam.

4. That's the point. And that is why the proponets of Federal tax on gasoline
have been trying to make for years. Had this been done 30 years ago when I remember it being proposed, we would probably have an alternative fuel by now...or at least an electric auto.
