I have become something of a conspiracy theorist.
Those who know me will tell you that I have been very skeptical of many of the conjectures some have made that are bounced around this forum. But this latest piece of information, from no less a mainstream source then U.S. News and World Report, is making me seriously reconsider the way I view exactly how evil the Bush administration really is.

Here's what worries me. It is in this week's issue of U.S. News ("Washington Whispers" lead, page six):

From the White House, a nightmare scenario
White House officials say they've got a "working premise" about terrorism and the presidential election: It's going to happen. "We assume," says a top administration official, "an attack will happen leading up to the election." And, he added, "it will happen here." There are two worst-case scenarios, the official says. The first posits an attack on Washington, possibly the Capitol, which was believed to be the target of the 9/11 jet that crashed in Pennsylvania. Theory 2: smaller but more frequent attacks in Washington and other major cities leading up to the election. To prepare, the administration has been holding secret antiterrorism drills to make sure top officials know what to do. "There was a sense," says one official involved in the drills, "of mass confusion on 9/11. Now we have a sense of order." Unclear is the political impact, though most Bushies think the nation would rally around the president. "I can tell you one thing," adds the official sternly, "we won't be like Spain," which tossed its government days after the Madrid train bombings.

1. Me too. And I was never one before the Chimp administration!
Now I'm firmly in the LIHOP camp and believe that our foreign policy is being dictated by End-Timers who want to hasten the coming of the Rapture. I'm even suspicious that Pappa Bush had something to do with the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan.

I was happier before. Just one more thing to hold against the Chimp administration. Damn, I hate those guys.

2. The worst thing about this particular scenario
..is the fact that they're only considering a threat to their own precious overpaid hides. Likely the next attack (and there will always be one) will kill thousands of US, not them. They really don't seem to give a rip if that happens.

Oh, and I'm firmly in the LIHOP camp, too, and I loathe conspiracy theories. I saw the full video of Bush at the Booker School, and became a convert. They knew. They let it happen.

3. I'm wondering if history will note the conspiracy theories
and how they'll be represented in the history books.

4. I as well.
If they are indeed true, there is no doubt the Bush administration will at least attempt destroy all traces. If they are not... no idea.

7. They knew what to do on 9/11, too. They just failed to do it.
"To prepare, the administration has been holding secret antiterrorism drills to make sure top officials know what to do."

We won't be like Spain, eh? Is this an order, a directive, a suggestion, a brainwash edict for the masses that we are not to be like those logical, thoughtful Spaniards?

Screw you, "stern" official

9. Only if they want riots in the streets
Are they *that* stupid? Or overconfident maybe, given what happened after they stole it last time?
