Bill Clinton for Sec'y of State.
Edited on Tue May-18-04 10:39 AM by Sperk
He is the MOST respected American around the world. Our reputation is so damaged that we must pull out the big guns (or in this case, Big Dog). I also suggest Al Gore Sec'y of the Interior, Elliot Spitz for Attorney General, Wes Clark for Sec'y of Defense. Paul Krugman for....what was Paul O'Neil's position called again? You get the drift.

Let's once again show the world how competent GROWN UPS run the country!!!

3. Clinton should not get an official position, keep him free to attend to
working in many different areas. he is so talented and knowledgable. i think it would be better if kerry got clinton to do things without an official position such as maybe ask him to meet with some foreign officials , and also to help with domestic issues like getting support for health care, education etc. making him sec of state or something else would keep him tied down to one area. also, i don't think other democrats running for other office want to lose his help during campaigns especially in fundraising.

4. He will need to be involved
in some form or fashion. There's a lot of damage to undo and Kerry wouldn't be able to do it by himself. Chimpy has pissed off the entire world. Clinton would help to heal those wounds. Kerry will have his hands full fending off the neocon attacks.

6. some good choices, but...
But, it's also a bunch of white guys.

You don't say who you'd want for VP, and Clark is not yet eligible for Sec of Defense.

Spitzer is liking going to run against Pataki for Governor of New York... I'd rather have Edwards as AG at this time and get NY back in Dem hands.

O'Neill was Treasury.

I've been promoting Bill Clinton for a while now for Sec of State, but it was not my idea on DU.

7. Terrific idea, but would he take it?
Bill seems to be having a pretty good time with his life now. He could perhaps be head of a special envoy to XXXXX; accomplish great things; and go back to having a good time. Why get trapped into haveing to appear before Congress explaining your actions all the time, and all the BS that goes along with being SOS?

8. Absolutely not. Never.
This is one of the biggest problems with the Democratic Party today, IMHO -- this "cult of personality" surrounding Bill Clinton.

He was already President for 8 years. He can still be effective on the international stage as an ex-President -- see Jimmy Carter for an excellent example of how to do this. But in order for the Democratic Party to grow, it must concentrate on the policies and leaders of TOMORROW, not of YESTERDAY.

Hell, why don't we run Bill Clinton for US Congress as well, along with Vice-President and appoint him as Sec. of State? Why don't we clone him, and run him for every elected office?

Edited on Tue May-18-04 11:07 AM by DiverDave
WTF you talking about?
The best person to fill the JOB is the overriding reason to pick someone.
I think it's a great idea. We need to repair our relationships with the world.
Bill could do that.
Cult of personality...geez...
STOP THIS!! We have one job to do, get this lying, money grubbing administration OUT!!!
Then we have to repair the damage done.

Bill Clinton for Secretary of State
Wes Clark as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs
John McCain as Secretary of Defense
John Edwards as Attorney General
Howard Dean as Surgeon General
Dick Gephardt as Secretary of Labor
Carol Mosely Braun as Secretary of HHS
Laurence Tribe as Chief Justice, assuming positions will open up in the next four years (he'd never get confirmed, but this is just a Dream Team list anyway!)

Oh, and Kathleen Sibelius or Mary Landrieux as VP (though my money is still on Bayh as the eventual pick).

19. do we even know Doc P is a 'he'?
What is that old feminist parable.

A doctor and his son get in a serious car accident and are taken to separate hospitals where the doctor is pronounced dead. In the operating room, the physician sees the boy on the table and says, "I cannot operate on this child. He is my son."

Leaving many in consternation until they realize that the mother is also a doctor.

It would put him in the line of succession.

Besides, why would Kerry want a Sec of State who would overshadow him.

My bad.

But it would still be a colossally bad move for Kerry. Clinton sucks up all the oxygen in DC. Kerry would look like his underling.

22. That isn't going to happen....
First of all, I can't see Clinton even wanting to be SOS. Why would he even consider it? He would over shadow Kerry and that wouldn't work well. I think if Wesley Clark isn't VP - - he'll probably be SOS. Bill Clinton will do better to help the democratic party by campaigning for Kerry. He's probably waiting for Hillary's chance to run for President and then we'll see even more of him.

26. I'd say Clinton to the Supreme Court
Edited on Tue May-18-04 11:35 AM by Mecil
Clinton should be nominated by Kerry to the Supreme Court, where we'd get a powerful voice of reason to combat Thomas and Scalia. Its not unheard of that a former president be on the Supreme Court, happened to another William (Taft).

Al Gore should be offered director of the EPA. This I feel would be a great move, in that the enviroment would get the powerful backing it needs to break up the industry lobby groups.

27. Better Idea, Yet!
Get Back the Senate and appoint his to SCOTUS. Man, would that chap the hide of the neocons! Don't worry about the law license thing. It is not a constitutional requirement that a justice be a practicing attorney. Just has to be knowledgeable of the law.

Taft is the precedent as well. He left as POTUS and was appointed to SCOTUS.

The nutjobs might actually leave the country (good!) if that happened.
