Just an opinion. I don't think we are near angry enough.
Before I rant I just want to clarify, I used to be an angry young man, now, I'm an angry old man.

We here, of course we here are angry. But I refer to our nation as a whole. Only a tiny percent even give a damn about anything past their own personal luxury and comfort, let alone politics.

But I also believe that America is about to get a whole lot angrier.
I was a teen in the late sixties, and that's how long it's been since people were this polarized. I remember well, the screaming and acrimony over the war. I hear a lot of the same rhetoric and phrases. Love it or leave it. God bless our troops. These colors don't run. Don't cut and run. Send more troops. Don't change horses. It's creepy.

But I can see it getting quite nasty in the next 6 months, if my crazy old instincts are true. Both sides, which we have been forced into more or less, left or right, are angry at the other, and there seems to be no room for debate, only screaming.

I've often harped about storming the White House, and taking to the streets, knowing full well that I was exaggerating. But, my rants do contain a bit of rationality. While I feel we need to be angrier, I also fear bringing out the worst in myself and others.

We have a right to be pissed off. And we have a right to remove bad elected officials. (I won't call them leaders, it's bad enough I have to call them elected) We will get angrier. I just hope that we Americans can contain it, once it's unleashed on it's creator, bushco.

1. Water going down the toilet spins in a counter-clockwise
direction in the northern hemisphere.

on flushing people down the toilet (and he prefers to victimize women). So please strive for accuracy.

25. Actually, that's not true.
This has been debunked many times. The coriolis forces from the earth's rotation make storm systems rotate in the same direction, but for something the size of a drain, these coriolis forces are miniscule compared to those created by the geometry of the drain.

4. I've;e been trying to think through this
and I keep coming up with a disturbing set of circumstances.

If the Repubs crank up the rhetoric, especially on the with-us-or-against-us meme; and,

If the Repubs remain as arrogant as they are or even get worse; and,

If demonstrations, letters to the editor and traditional protest techniques don't work;

Then we may find another Kent State on our hands.

The polarization scares me and the repub take on this is that it is the Dems alone who must "back off" in order to maintain civility. The Repubs have absolutely no intention whatsoever of backing off and will pursue their agenda arrogantly and ruthlessly. That will have the affect of "raising the ante" all the way around until violence occurs somewhere.

This disturbs me greatly.

9. mopaul, I agree. Read this statement.
QUOTE:..."WE ARE IN A CIVIL WAR” says Howard, “and we can’t afford to be nice.” “Stop being nice. YOU DO NOT COMPROMISE WITH THE RIGHT WING” he says.(These statements were made at a meeting recently in CA with former Dean campaign leaders.) He has said this at almost every appearance lately.

I happen to think he is right about a veritable civil war. Look at what is happening now....the right wing can not bear to lose.

13. Rock, paper, scissors.
Except comfort beats liberty. Too late, I say. We flunked our test. And it was a slow progression. First, the cities looked better than the farm. Then the word "we" meant "few". Then "we" turned into "me".
Now the White House is Black. There's no turning back.

(They fully tested us. When the drug war was enacted, and noone made a fuss, that was their cue that we were anesthetized. It started before then. Remember McCarthy. But this is wholesale. And it gets worse with increasing population. Remember, before the late fifties, we could just build a house and live in it. Now they've constrained. It's partly in the name of employment. The building departments claim it's for safety. But the pyramids didn't require building permits. It's a joke, except for complex or public structures. What we thought we gained, we lost in other areas. It's always a conjob. The problem is that people forget. Generations forget. And history repeats. The only thing I can say that's positive is that we have the best tools available at our disposal, than we've ever had. The negative is that the evils seem to keep up the pace.)

(Although, I was sort of trying to be incognito.)
I guess our identities are universally known.

14. Our anger must run cold
(WARNING: Pompous rant follows.)

I lost my own hot anger some time ago -- I have been taken by a cold-blooded desire to destroy every vestige of the neo-Con scourge. My every political action is based on that goal.

Not just to "defeat Bush" -- but to strangle the infant fascism in its cradle. Not just to "elect Kerry" -- but to foster a liberalism skilled in the martial arts, a liberalism that aims square and shoots to kill, and has the foresight to salt the enemy's earth.

I mean that metaphorically, of course ... political battle is usually bloodless, but it must be made, or real blood will be spilled by people who take no part in politics.

Taking the streets and storming the White House might have been a winning strategy in 1850, but not in 2004. Today, the "streets" are electronic and the White House is merely a symbol. The lesion of neo-Conservatism runs deep and will only be excised by millions of liberal activists challenging each infestation in public. I never thought I'd see it done, but it's happening now.

Our weapons, too, are electronic; our skill is keen, and our resolve is far stronger today than it was just four years ago. Every liberal must become a Samurai, a Knight, a Crusader, dedicated to Bushido, to the Grail, to the immortal spirit of the Declaration of Independence and the Port Huron Statement. We will prevail, our victory not borne on a tide of blood, but upon a gale of electrons and thoughts and hope and optimism.

A vast universe is waiting for our presence. But before we can seize the stars themselves, we must destroy the chains binding us to to the ground. It will take our dedication to the fight for human freedom. That's all it will take, and it will take all.

21. the internet is mightier than the sword
it's makes a huge diff, and it's all completely new to america's political spectrum. with it, we can expose, and investigate and inform. it is our weapon for today.

and maybe the 21st century will learn something early on, and benefit.

but i'm skeptical.

19. I wanted to organize an assembly of OUTRAGE for July 4th
Edited on Tue May-18-04 10:56 AM by Oddman
but now that Springsteen might be doing a free concert in New York City on September 2nd during the GOP convention, maybe that would be the time for a mass get-together of Democrats to protest this administration in NYC and around the country. I like the idea of doing it during the convention and steal some of the "sparkle".

This would combine the new technology of the internet with the wonderful force of a demonstration of millions!

Still an great amount of anger there, but I don't rant frequently. That's just how I am. There's work to be done and I'm doing my best to direct my anger into that.
