Serious Question about Sarin, shelf-life...
If this was Sarin and it is confirmed, could it be considered a WMD? Is it any good after that long? I mean, you wouldn't want to drink it but would it be good enough after 10+ years to be considered a WMD?

3. There are a lot of articles on this.
Google sarin shelf-life.

The main problem appears the purity of the precursor chemicals and Iraqs was never more than 60%. Some of the articles estimate a few weeks shelf life.

They seem to have perfected binary munitions and I heard one of the commentators today talk about the binary nature of the IED used today. But, those need to be shot from a cannon to mix and form sarin.

Bottom line, they probably dug up some shells from a desert storage depot that were at least 12 years old and ineffective unless shot from a cannon.

4. Here is an information link on Sarin
http://cfrterrorism.org/weapons/sarin2.html

Sarin

What kind of chemical is sarin?
A nerve agent—the most poisonous kind of chemical weapon. Nerve gases—which also include soman, tabun, and VX—are practically odorless, colorless, and tasteless. At room temperature, sarin takes a liquid form, but it evaporates quickly into a gas. Sarin acts and dissipates more quickly than other nerve agents. Sarin exposure can be treated if drugs are administered immediately, and it is less likely to cause chronic illness or disabilities than blister-causing agents such as mustard gas.

Can sarin be found in nature?
No. It was developed in the 1930s by German scientists seeking stronger pesticides. When further tested by the Nazis (who never actually used it), sarin was found to be a potent weapon.

Which states have sarin?
Only Russia and the United States have officially declared that they have stockpiles of sarin. The United States began developing sarin as part of its chemical weapons program in the 1950s; it now has more than 5,000 tons of sarin stored across the country. Russia has about 11,700 tons of sarin.
