If I hear one more idiot say "Think of the children" when it comes to.....
....same sex marriage, I think my head will explode!!!!!

I'm reading this article on Yahoo News! and there's that quote that is suppose to frighten all us heterosexual people to run out and insist on that stupid marriage amendment:

Speakers railed against what they called "sexual sin" and warned that gay marriage could have negative effects on families.

I mean Geez, what affect on families??? It's not like these same-sex couples getting married are required to move in and live with a family with a traditional marriage. This is simply the act of two people in love wanting to make a lifetime commitment to each other. How in God's name can that be a sin? I mean, especially when we have reality shows on TV trying to hook up total strangers so they can married or celebrity drunken marriages that are annulled in less than 3 days, how could I, as a heterosexual, be critical of anyone who wants to married regardless of their sexual orientation.

I'm just sick and tired of these fundies using the "Children" or the "families" everytime we do stuff they don't like. Heck, their children are probably at home right now playing violent video games and discovering the thrills of sniffing common household products, maybe these parents should worry about their own kids first!!!

Ok, I'm done ranting!!! Someone please tell me I'm not the only person who feels this way!!

1. It's about control.
A lot of the folks who spout the stuff you mentioned lead boring, non-productive lives which they learned a long time ago that they can't control...(damn, I really don't feel like going to church tonight but I have to.)

So they find a group of people who they think they CAN control and use every ill-logical bullshit reason they can so they (at least) have control over something or somebody....

2. I dunno...I saw a gay couple in my local paper, and I got, well... curious
Same thing at the book store, I saw a copy of the Koran and I felt like becoming a Muslim, then damned if I didn't see some half-nekkid pierced chicks at the Food Court and I felt like cheating on my wife, then dang it all, I saw a Toyota out in the parking lot and I felt like NOT BUYING AMERICAN, then I heard Howard Stern on the radio and I felt like spouting obscenities and getting my salad tossed.

Kindest Regards,

A Typical Gutless, Spineless, Chickenshit RWer Who Can't Control His Goddam Life

3. "Think of the children" has become one of the GREAT laugh lines.
It's just so pathetic when people drag out that bromide.

And I have 2 kids!

5. That upsets me, too...
My husband has two brothers. One is gay and has lived with the same partner for years, the other is straight and got married last year and now has a baby girl.

The straight brother is a complete nincompoop and his wife is a dribbling idiot when it comes to taking care of a baby. We've had to call a children's help line about them twice because they have NO clue what they're doing and don't think they need any one's help. They fought this winter over which one was going to pay to get heating fuel in the house while their newborn was freezing cold.

The gay brother is wonderful with children and I'd leave my son in his care LONG before the straight brother. The gay brother is a sweetheart who is ALWAYS looking out for kids and would NEVER do anything to hurt a child. My husband and I have questioned time and time again why the straight brother was blessed with a child and the gay brother who would love a child and care for a child, putting the child's every need before his own will never have a child.

These Xtian hypocrites need to get a life and stop butting in where they don't belong and giving opinions on the lives of other people.

6. In ANY context, those fuckers couldn't care less for the children.
It's an excuse so they can have their way.

If they did give a fuck about children, this world would be a far, far different place...

7. You know Lynne...
...a great come back to the "think of the children" bullshit is simply to turn around and say; "I am thinking of the children, that's why I support marriage rights for the gay community."

"Don't you realize gay and couples can have children? They can adopt, they can buy sperm, they can get a surrogate mother, etc."

Then finish it off with; "Are these children not real children, because their parents happen are gay?"

These fundies need to realize that their families are not the only families in the world.

9. It doesn't work
these idiots think all the gays & lesbians are out there actively recruiting their children into the "Cult of Homosexuality" (or the "Cult of ____________" {fill in the blank}). I think they seriously believe if their kids saw a same-sex couple holding hands that their kids were turn around and say they're a homosexual too

8. Same deal with gun control laws...
"think of the children" is the catch-phrase for stupidity. If one side uses a "think of the children" argument, it's proof that they're intellectually bankrupt.
