Contractors ordered torture...immunity by Executive order

Like this wasn't planned out long in advance.

Bushit's executive order gave the contractors legal immunity against any and all prosecution. This is proof the order to torture the Iraqis goes all the way to the top.

Executive Order 13303, issued on May 22, 2003, claims to be essential to Iraqi reconstruction efforts. A cursory reading of the Order indicates that its real purpose is to protect oil companies by giving virtual impunity for any activities undertaken relating to Iraqi oil.

This Order, with broad language that seems to sweep aside federal statutes, including the Alien Tort Claims Act, has received no public attention. It has been brought to light by a researcher with the Sustainable Energy and Environment Network (SEEN).

Under this Order, an oil company complicit in human rights violations, or one that causes environmental damage, would be immune from lawsuits.

The document is apparently intended as a sweeping grant of immunity to individuals, corporations, agencies and others involved in Iraqi oil sales, marketing, or other oil-related activities.

For example, a U.S. oil company benefiting from human rights abuses, no matter how egregious, apparently falls within the Order’s immunity from suit.

1. When private companies have license to violate laws

there is no government, no nations, no laws. It is as simple as that.

This is a classic Bushco ploy. You can bet if they get a second term -everyone who has donated or supported them in one way or another will be heading for the "immune from lawsuits" status, shortly before the "immune from taxes" status.

4. won`t hold up in the world court

won`t hold up when the iraqi`s kick the bush guys out and it goes to an islamic republic or is under the authority of the un. the government of iraq can bring all these war crimes to the world stage and seek redress from the united states. the blair government is in real trouble since they signed the world court agreement..tony won`t be able to leave britian or he maybe forced to go to the court to answer charges..bush will never go because he`ll never leave the usa after he is out of office. kissinger cannot travel to certain countries because of chile`s war crimes

5. an executive order can't cancel a federal statute

The article includes a link to a discussion of the legal merits of such an order.

It's unclear what the Supreme Court would do, but I would certainly rule against it in their situation.
