Fuk McCain
Desparate Repugs, after ruining their own party, are now trying to wiggle their way into the power they have rightly lost.

No Dice, baby.

I am not buying this crap. You guys go down with the ship you crashed.

You bought "McCain is crazy"
You bought this war crap
Your turn to suffer.

Bush is the greates failure in US history and his supporters are the the most blind egocentric, uncautious embarassment; America's Shame.

now GET OVER IT.

2. Anti-Ditto
McCain is a moderate republican. He's friends with many dems. He had disagreed with the Bush administration on many occasions. It is reported that McCain is not an avid supporter of Bush.

The 2000 primaries are an example of that. I believe he fears the far right of the party which is why he stays with the GOP. Looks what almost happened to Arlen Specter.

It's only a matter of time before the same happen to McCain, the fact that he is a national figure is keeping him safe for now, but as the GOP wanders farther to the right, I imagine the McCain will soon be in the sights of primary against a far right candidate. If he were to go Indy the right would hang him out to dry.

You are making assumptions that cannot be backed up by proof. McCain is very conservative and actively worlking on the re-elect Bush* team.

31. McCain is NOT moderate - he is just integritious
Edited on Sat May-15-04 11:17 AM by Selwynn
McCain is a conservative through and through, but he is honest, and he has shown an predilection for and a desire to dialog honestly about issues. That is why sometimes Dems see him as a respectable guy - because he represents the kind of "other party" that we should have.

McCain to me represents more true conservatism rather than this neo-conservative fascism that has taken over the party. I don't agree even with true conservatism, but I don't hate true conservatism either. I have honest disagreements and frankly I'm very glad there are different points of view. McCain represents on of those different points of view and he does so with a kind of common decency not found to often in either party today.

17. Don't come here calling us nuts...
...when you are proposing that after years of having had the DLC drag us ever rightward, that we should just cede the VP spot entirely to the Republicans. Ah, the fabled unity ticket. Right, sure...whatever. Why not just merge and have one candidate, one party? Why even bother with the illusion of choice?

Something I missed?

If this is in regard to the McCain for VP nonsense, hey I'm with you!

There is no way McCain will be Kerry's VP, fuggetaboutit, aintgonnahappen. Don't bother wasting your keystrokes debating it.

Kerry will pick either Clark or Edwards, most likely Edwards. Picking McCain will be worse than picking Lieberman. McCain is anti-choice and very conservative to boot. And he is supporting Bush.

Talk about flip-flops.

14. A unity government?
Edited on Sat May-15-04 10:50 AM by parasim
Here's an interesting take on such a concept:

http://www.onlinejournal.com/Commentary/043004Tanosborn/043004tanosborn.html

-snip

can we, in good faith, reason out the need for a unity government? Not by a mile. It would seem a totally senseless idea unless the ultimate aim is to popularize the cause for a "united, strong America staying the course," which would probably be translated by some at home and many overseas as dressing up with Democratic clothes the existing political body of naked fascism.

America is a divided nation, yes. But what divides America is not something which may be bridged with a National Unity Government or a Government of National Salvation. We are neither at the aftermath of a Civil War nor are we being attacked or invaded, so a unity government is not, nor should it be, our Republic's answer to an oft used approach by parliamentary systems such as those in Israel or the United Kingdom.

They had their chance to nominate McCain in 2000 but they fucked it up. Now they must suffer the consequences of choosing shrub. And those consequences involve the very liberal president Kerry and hopefully a Democratic Senate.

for (best case scenario) Republicans in Congress to attempt to impeach and remove President Kerry from office, or (worst case scenario) for some wacko to make an attempt on his life.

We've seen how far Republicans are willing to go to get a fellow Republican into office - why make it easier for them?

23. Well-said, I concur.
There is *no way* I am voting for McCain on any position on the presidential ticket. Two weeks into a Kerry candidacy, Kerry would be Wellstoned by the Bush terror team, and they would force McCain to carry out PNAC's orders.

That having been said, I do believe McCain at least believes in what he says, and cares for the country, unlike most Republicans in power.

be a decent choice for Kerry's cabinet. And certainly he is someone who JK could work closely with on the other side of the aisle.

This friendship stuff is not for show, I think. People like JK and McCain do have a real bond through common service that transcends politics (!) that slacker/fakers like shrub and dick and Karl could NEVER possibly understand. For them, there is nothing above loyalty to the Party, which is primarily based on greed and self interest.

In fact, a JK presidency, working closely with certain key people like McCain or Hagel (but NOT kowtowing to discredited RW agenda) would send an unmistakeable message of good faith in mending America's wounds (domestic), suffered during this administration and this war.

I can't think of any Democrat that shrubco makes any pretense of even working with rather than steamrolling over. And the fake ones who spend all their time servicing the shrub's micro mouse tool don't even deserve mentioning.

32. Cabinet may be OK
Clinton had Republican William Cohen as Defense Secretary. But certainly not VP. That's just ludicrous. Kerry and McCain are close friends and they both hate Bush but that's where it ends. McCain is conservative and Kerry is liberal. There are many Democrats that are better choices.

besides, Kerry will win this election. There's no need to pander to conservatives.

Pluck, leaks helped McCain to overcome S&L scandal

By Walter V. Robinson, Globe Staff

A decade ago, Senator John McCain's role in the most politically corrosive episode of the $150 billion savings and loan debacle threatened to end a political career that now holds some promise of concluding instead with a McCain presidency.

-snip-

He was a close friend and early congressional ally of Charles H. Keating Jr. - the figure at the core of scandal - and one of the leading beneficiaries of Keating's political and personal largesse. Yet, he benefited from decisions by the Senate Ethics Committee that minimized his culpability and the resulting sanction.
