Fiasco Brewing in Karbala?
First there is this latest news report:

Coalition Warns Karbala Residents to Leave Iraqi Holy City After Clashes
KARBALA, Iraq (AFP) - US-led coalition forces urged residents to leave this Iraqi holy city after three civilians were killed and seven others wounded in fighting between Shiite militiamen and Iraqi troops. US warplanes flew low overhead and coalition soldiers drove through town telling people to leave over loud speakers following clashes between US-trained Iraqi paramilitary forces and loyalists of radical Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr.

Now read this:
HISTORY: Battle of Kerbela
The Battle of Karbela took place on October 10, 680 in Iraq. The battle saw the armies of Yazid face those of Imam Husayn. The armies of Yazid prevailed, and ended the threat to his claim over the caliphate from Husayn, but not before Husayn and his entire family were killed. The body of Husayn was decapitated, and the head was brought back to Yazid. The day is remembered by Muslims as Ashura, and is extremely important to the Shia. Yazid's actions in regards to Husayn and the battle have made him a notorious figure.

The Bush occupation forces are going to cross the line in Karbala very soon. The Shia have a sense of their history. In otherwords, are Bush and Bremer going to be perceived as a modern-day version of Yazid?

After the humiliation of the prisoner torture scandal, is the response of the Bush regime going to be to arrogantly provoke a full Shia religious uprising against the occupation? Are they so desparate to distract us from the beating death of Iraqi prisioners that they will risk Sistani actively opposing the occupation?

Just how bad can it get in Iraq?

1. Our attention has been taken away from other happenings
in Iraq. I read a story on Reuters about Karbala and how the US soldiers were broadcasting for people to leave the town. Wonder if this is gonna be worse than Fallujah?

2. It's going to get a lot worse, alas.
Bush has no use for history, not even his own. He has no use for culture, not even his own. He is a willfully ignorant little man, and his policies reflect it. He will continue to try to rule with force. He won't succeed.

Other people do have very long memories. He can't win. He can only make a horrible situation much worse, and he will.

3. CNN in reporting face to face fighting
She said that this is the first time US troops have been engaged in this type of fighting.

The US has already damaged the dome of the main mosque.

I am afraid this will not go well for the us. But I bet the xians are all in a tizzy. Probably looks like the start of Armageddon to them.

4. That was then, this is now...
A little retrospective:

In Kosovo, the Serbian Army was fighting a war against Muslim terrorists. The terrorists would often occupy sympathetic villages and towns. When the Serbs came to capture and or kill the terrorists, they would tell the civilians to leave the town.

The Western media (led by the US) called this "ethnic cleansing".

After everyone who wanted to had left, the Serb military would then attack the town, killing anyone who put up any resistance, and many civilians who got caught in the crossfire.

The Western media (led by the US) called this "genocide".

Now fast forward to Iraq.

Once again, terrorists are hiding in a town populated by mostly sympathetic civilians. Up rolls the US army and orders all the civilians out.

The Western media (led by the US) DOES NOT call this "ethnic cleansing".

As soon as they feel that everyone who is going to leave has left, the US military will attack that town and kill anyone who puts up any resistance, and many civilians who will get caught in the crossfire.

The Western media (led by the US) WILL NOT call this "genocide".

Once again proving that as far as the US is concerned (and much of the rest of the west) it is "Do as I say, not as I do".
