Not close at all. She looked dumb and ignorant, while Franken had all the information. Franken slayed her. She had nothing to say to any of the questions asked. When she did have something to say, Franken had some very sharp remarks ready.

quick on his feet. And, even when he says something very direct it always seems softened by his natural humor. Coulter emotes purely from hatred and her natural negativity and has no tools at her disposal except Repug talking points or hateful hyperbole (which quickly gets her in trouble with any audience that isn't so ill-informed as she). No way can Coulter ever truly stand up against Franken in any forum where we don't have Faux-bots constantly intervening to her aid.

She spews out literally anything with no basis to back it up. She has been a proven liar on her columns, books and other crap she has put out. Yet, she has books published on her bullshit, she's on the speakers' circuit and a commentator on a number of media.

BTW, a caller on Franken's show on Air America read a quote from Abe Lincoln, the founder of the Republican party, which flies in the face of all of Coulter's rhetoric, if she really believes she's Republican. Did Franken use it in his "debate?"

The funny thing, as you point out, is that people like Ann never stop to think what would have happened if FDR had NOT been able to shove the New Deal programs through over fanatical opposition from Conservatives, who had long since been forced to admit that they didn't have any ideas and didn't know how to fix what was wrong, but they were damn sure that giving public monies to millions of people who were starving because there were no jobs was a crime against humanity and most likely blasphemous as well.

In short, the electoral map would still be showing a whole lot of RED -- but it would have more of a Leningrad hue. Conservatives at the time were terrified of it. But the conservative mindset is fundamentally rigid, and therefore even their nightmares of red banners rising throughout the heartland weren't strong enough to break down their inherent worship of the sanctity of personal profit.
To such a person, the possibility of losing a dollar today is more horrifying than the probability of losing everything tomorrow.
