that the extreme elements in each party would come unglued at such a bold and visionary move to bring this nation together politically. I think the best we can hope for is a watered down version of reconciliation between the parties (something we DEPSERATELY need as a nation) where Kerry cabinet positions are filled with Republicans.

Things are bad and to continue with plurality governing, no matter which party gains the reigns, is untenable.

This ticket would have appeal to JK and his advisers ONLY if it were the ONLY way to be sure of beating Bush. It would involve enormous unforseen risks, and it would be, of course, historic. But it would virtually GUARANTEE that Kerry-McCain would win the election.

The more Bush sinks in the polls, however, the less Kerry will feel compelled to take such extreme measures to guarantee a victory.

17. I think it a good idea

McCain is a moderate republican. He's friewnds with many dems. He had disagreed with the Bush administration, on many occasions. It is reported that McCain is not an avid supporter of Bush.

The 2000 primaries are an example of that. I believe he fears the far right of the party which is why he stays with the GOP. Looks what almost happened to Arlen Specter. It's only a matter of time before the same happen to McCain, the fact that he is a national figure is keeping him safe for now, but as the GOP wanders farther to the right, I imagine the McCain will soon be in the sights of primary against a far right candidate. If he were to go Indy the right would hang him out to dry.

So, why select McCain when Clark (for instance) would be just as good and is a bona fide Democrat?
