McCain as VP
Oh please! Is this really serious that Kerry wants him for VP? Or is it just media hype.

1. John McCain is a Conservative

2. It could possibly unite the country
the only problem is that the extreme elements of both parties would not accept it. Could Kerry win in that case?

8. Bullshit. The GOP knows they have lost it and now they want to get power
through Democrats. He is a REPUBLICAN who has betrayed his country by supporting EVERYTHING Bush has done. Why on earth would we want him on our ticket?? Go away.

14. I tend to agree
that the extreme elements in each party would come unglued at such a bold and visionary move to bring this nation together politically. I think the best we can hope for is a watered down version of reconciliation between the parties (something we DEPSERATELY need as a nation) where Kerry cabinet positions are filled with Republicans.

Things are bad and to continue with plurality governing, no matter which party gains the reigns, is untenable.

19. I guess I am an extreme member of my party
and to think I used to think of myself as a moderate.

No, I will not vote for a republican on the ticket.

3. The more Bush falls now, the less likely a Kerry-McCain ticket.
This ticket would have appeal to JK and his advisers ONLY if it were the ONLY way to be sure of beating Bush. It would involve enormous unforseen risks, and it would be, of course, historic. But it would virtually GUARANTEE that Kerry-McCain would win the election.

The more Bush sinks in the polls, however, the less Kerry will feel compelled to take such extreme measures to guarantee a victory.

4. I like McCain, but now is not the time to water our party down even more
We need to be as distinct from the RWers as we can.

13. Wow. Liking McCain is hardly the same as supporting Bush
But you knew that.

Thanks for playing, though! Now, where is that button...

20. Being a republican
does not make one a traitor. Let's not use Coulterish rhetoric.

5. McCain on the ticket
would be touted by all good media whores as indicative of Kerry's "desperation," "grasping at straws," "betrayel of his own party's principles,"......you know the drill. We have Clark, don't need McCain.

7. I only vote for Democrats.
If McCain were on the ticket as God as my witness I would sit my ass at home on election day. There is no such thing as a good republican. Sorry, just expressing my opinion.

10. This is what corporate media is hoping you will do.
I also would not vote if they stuck a Bush supporter on the ticket. The DLC, the RNC wing of the Democratic party, would do this though.

Why would anyone vote for a Bush supporter?

12. McCain has stated he is voting for Bush.
That wouldn't be a very good thing for a Dem VP to behave, now would it?

16. Might as well paint a bulls-eye on Kerry's back.
I'd bet the most vigorous opponennts of such a scheme would be the Secret Service.

17. I think it a good idea
McCain is a moderate republican. He's friewnds with many dems. He had disagreed with the Bush administration, on many occasions. It is reported that McCain is not an avid supporter of Bush.

The 2000 primaries are an example of that. I believe he fears the far right of the party which is why he stays with the GOP. Looks what almost happened to Arlen Specter. It's only a matter of time before the same happen to McCain, the fact that he is a national figure is keeping him safe for now, but as the GOP wanders farther to the right, I imagine the McCain will soon be in the sights of primary against a far right candidate. If he were to go Indy the right would hang him out to dry.

18. All of those qualities are good, and many Dems have them, too
So, why select McCain when Clark (for instance) would be just as good and is a bona fide Democrat?
