Americans overreacting to torture pics. by Tom Delay

Let Americans see and decide

Saturday, May 15, 2004

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, said that "some people are overreacting" to the pictures of Americans torturing Iraqi prisoners, and as such, they are pushing an anti-war agenda ("Lawmakers view graphic images," May 13).

Many members of Congress disagree. Who is right? Why not release the photos and let Americans decide for themselves?

ANTI-WAR AGENDA?????????

So I guess everyone else is pushing a pro-war agenda? Isn't this what you call a WAR MONGER?

It's time to KNOCKOUT DeLay!

8. I said the same thing to my husband on Thursday night, for God's sake
his claim to fame was "Exterminator" of bugs. Period. It takes a bug to kill a bug. He is a roach. We will never be rid of him. Unless we all try really hard and then the machines, infested with roaches will still give any election to him.

3. Pot to kettle. Paging Mr. Tom Kettle.
"House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, said he thought 'some people are overreacting.

"'The people who are against the war are using this to their political ends,' he said."

Mr. DeLay, sir? Don't you suppose you are using these photos to further your own agenda as well? :eyes:

If not, please tell me, Mr. DeLay, precisely how I should react to photographs of United States soldiers (or are they Marines?) committing acts of cruelty, torture, and humiliation, against prisoners of war -- and some who may not even be POWs, apparently. How should I react?

Should I just blow it off, like you & Inhofe & others have? Should I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with all the self-righteous non-thinking "patriots" out there who say, "They had it coming!"?

Have you ever read the Geneva Convention, Congressman?

9. Let's all go back a moment or two in time when DeLay didn't overreact
Edited on Sat May-15-04 09:23 AM by anarchy1999
to Monica and Bill, shall we. I'm not even going to bother with doing a google and putting up a link, there are too many.

All DeLay did was scream impeach for lies at the top of his poisoned lungs.

11. That was different. DeLay was right in his reaction to that nastiness,
as were all the good people who voted to impeach.

That was a matter of character, which we all know is the most important thing on earth.

Torture? Rape? Murder? By Americans, in direct defiance of the Geneva Convention? A mere trifle by comparison.

12. Exactly why I am confused and don't have a lot of respect
for Christian "fundamentalists". Their brains aren't working right. Maybe it was the bug spray with DeLay, what about his followers? Bug Spray??

13. Nah, not bug spray. By my own experience, it's just good old fashioned
brain washing. Get 'em young, teach 'em young, and never let them question.

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." from the Proverbs. Fundies set store by this. Unfortunately, for them "the way he should go" is one-size-fits-all.

21. Fundies
They virtually would not care if we skinned every Iraqi man woman and child alive as long as it was for the sweet baby jesus. I am surrounded by them and they just quote some bible verse if you mention their total amorality. Facts are truly hated by them.

4. Inhofe, DeLay...
are trying to rally the faithful, turn obvious criminal abuse into a matter of opinion. Pretty much like the war itself.

5. Delay need not worry. Tom Brokaw of NBC has come to his rescue.
On Wednesday night, Brokaw posed a question relating to the "abuse" photos something like, "How much is too much?"

Brokaw then delivered a lecture with the answer for his viewers: We, the People, must NOT be allowed to see any more pictures!

Of course, keeping news of criminal acts from the American people is called "news" by Brokaw and his masters at NBC and GE, which owns NBC.

And keeping the truth from the American people benefits Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Myers mightily.

BTW, GE contributed $100,000 to Bush Inaugural in 2001.

6. these @#$$holes are desperate to cover up what was going on
in the prisons. Perhaps they've conveniently fogotten that it was going on for months in Iraq and years in Afghanistan. This incident has escalated anti-American feelings throughout parts of the Arab world to fever pitch and they have only themselves to blame. The fact that there are purportedly a thousand or so other pictures may not make too much difference at this point, unless something extremely heinous leaks out. To be fair, there's plenty of blame to go around on this one and Democrats need to take on some of it too.

7. Any reaction to a tragedy that happened under Republicans' watch
is overreaction, a fraternity prank, or whatever. But any little thing that happens under Democrats' watch is the Apocalypse approaching. Remember Pat Robertson & Co. on the Clinton sex scandal and the other things they dug up on him? They said respect for the U.S. from other countries is in the toilet. But under Bush, we arm Saddam Hussein, we lie that he has WMDs, we blow his country up, killing thousands of innocent civilians and several hundred of our finest soldiers, we take over their prisons and treat the inmates the way we've been treating them...and that's an overreaction?

I agree, I think DeLay is a poster child for overexposure to pesticides.

10. Hey, Tom, Put your money where your mouth is. Sign up for an indefinite
stay at in one of the detention centers using those kind of interrogation methods... As a detainee, not an interrogator. Let's see how YOU feel after YOU have had wires hooked to your private parts and been thrown naked and cuffed on top of other naked and cuffed detainees. Let's see how YOU feel to have female guards laughing at your personal attributes and taking pictures. Let's see how YOU feel after after trained police dogs have attacked YOU while you stood there naked and defenseless. Let's hear how YOU feel after being repeatedly beaten.... etc.

Are we still over reacting? Hmmm?

19. Saw Tom "DDT" DeLay on the tube wringing his hands over the
pornographic aspect of the photos due to the nudity.
Didn't seem to worry about the criminal aspect of the photos' content.
Tells you where his head is at.

24. Help Morrison defeat DeLay -
Edited on Sat May-15-04 11:52 AM by RhodaGrits

I contributed to Morrison because DeLay is one of the top scum that have to go. DeLay had his office call me asking for money for the RNC (using methods that involved deceit and fraud) so I have no qualms about contributing to his competitor.
