Sorting out the hawks and doves in the presidential field
"The top hawk, Joe Lieberman, and the top dove, Dennis Kucinich, get extra winger points for being vocal about their war positions. The other candidates ranked are John Edwards, Dick Gephardt, Carol Moseley-Braun, and Al Sharpton. The icons in the chart below indicate which candidates took a hawkish or dovish position on each question or vote. Waffles indicate a position from which the candidate could later claim to have been on either side, depending on how things turn out. The quotes used to categorize each candidate are given below the chart, with links to the original documents when available."

1. bias
They have Dean opposing the 2002 vote, but not Moseley Braun who has stated many times that "Congress should not have abdicated to the President the power to engage Americans in a unilateral, preemptive war."

2. nevermind--will be corrected
I was told it would be corrected.

The quote that finally made the case I think was:
"Robert Byrd was right. The Constitution of the United States calls on Congress to make declarations of war. And frankly I think the people who voted for that resolution were wrong to do so. You can't just abdicate as profound a responsibility as war and peace to the executive in the face, again, of the constitutional requirement."

That's from the announcement speech Carol gave, which was carried on cspan, and is still posted there.

Therefore I now believe that the article, as soon it's emended, will fairly summarize Moseley Braun's positions. Furthermore, I acknowledge that Mr. Saletan and the gang at Slate made an honest effort to represent her position, and although I disagree with their initial conclusion, I respect their commitment to accuracy.

Gully, sorry to cry foul in your thread. I hope you can understand.

3. This was when Saletan was on the proDean bandwagon...
he has recently altered his own perception of Dean.
