Monkey Wrench about to be thrown? 'Pugs stage 'open convention'???
OK.. time to play 'what if' (with some numbers behind it..)

Shrubya is in free-fall, he's 46% and falling...

let's say by the convention, he's < 40%.

Would he have the nads to step aside and not run?
Would the leadership say "you're outta here"?
Would they declare a free-for-all?

They know that as he falls, so possibly does the House and Senate (oh be still my heart... now THAT would be a trifecta).

Would they? Could they?

or most important...... Who?

McCain?

1. Nads, you say?
The GOP is committed to Team Bush. His positives could be in the single digits, and he'd be coronated.

There's still six months to go. It's not over -- it ain't even started yet!

3. Bu$h*t Negatives!?
If this country of ours suffers another term of this corporate criminal, evil, odious corupt scum of the earth regime. Then 6-month's is all we have left before the fall of what was once a great country!

12. I must disagree
Your warning is well-placed, but it's easy to lose hope when hope becomes treason to tyrants like the squatters in the White House. America won't fall because of the likes of George W. Bush and his dysfunctional peer group. But ... it will be a rough several years.

Really, this country has been thoroughly "tested" by tragedy only once, during the Civil War. WWII did almost no damage to America, in spite of the 200,000 soldiers we lost; McCarthyism ruined many careers, but most of its victims rebuilt their lives; and I am confident we will survive Mr. Bush's reign of amorality.

Even if we faced an economic disaster, a pandemic, the earth-shaking eruption of the Yellowstone "supervolcano" and a mass invasion by some near-future Tamerlane and army, America would survive.

To paraphrase de Tocqueville, America is great because America is good. Recently, we have lost our way, and evil men have been allowed access to government. Places like DU are ample proof that the greatness of America will re-assert itself.

Even if we "retire" Team Bush this fall, the reconstruction is gonna be hard ... do we have what it takes to nurture the glory of goodness, once the evil of vainglory has been turned out of power?

2. Won't happen.
But if it did, McCain is their only hope.

5. Agreed. Cheney is too power-addicted
Edited on Fri May-14-04 11:22 PM by gulfcoastliberal
and Shrub* is too stupid to care whether he is the root cause of his party's downfall. The fact they stand by Rummy after the torture scandal indicates to me they are all in this together. Besides, the pugs ALWAYS move in lockstep. They are controlled by the top down.

11. I'd pay hard American cash for that poll.
And, if it comes out the way I imagine it would, I'd encourage Kerry to choose a running mate ASAP.

13. Cheney is the goddamn Anti-Christ
Is Cheney a psychopath doped up on Ambien like Powell suggests? Does Cheney have normal human emotions? Maybe the exposure of Rush Limbaugh as a pharmceutical junkie is a wake up call. We have drugged out zombies in high places. What are the Big Pharma Corporations doing to us?

Never forget they pay poor people to submit to medical experimentation.

4. They'd never drop Bush*!
They'll remain confident. They've snookered the public before. They've got the money, they've got the media, and they have no qualms about disenfranchising voters.

Remember Bush I was behind Dukakis by 18% at one point and went on to win. They'll cling to that example.

I have wondered this same thing
Not just the polls but if we can get impeachment in motion on any number of charges against bush. Pick a charge. I am not sure how to get one of the many atrocities against this war criminal president to stick. They dance so much and have so much on all the repubs everyone is afraid of them. None of them seem to have backbone to stand up to this #$%$#%#$%

So if it looks like legally we are going to dump him.....would they put up McCain....he is popular.....and seems to have some values and scrupples.....

be interesting to see what happens....

I can't see how their party can go with this ciminal....and his criminal minions....

still allows for a "Diebold" election.

7. I don't think there's any chance. They already have all the marbles bet
on Chimpy and his gang. To abandon that during the convention (is there really such a thing, or a difference from typical, as an "open" conv?)

But, their message has been and will be I'm sure about "don't change horses" and they can't drop that without implicitly admitting they have nothing to offer.

I dunno but it seems awfully unlikely.

8. the party is too scared of the neo-con crime family that has hijacked
their party as they've hijacked the country. i'm hoping and praying that the bush backlash will runover to the senate and house elections.

if we can get the next 4 yrs, i think we have a VERY good shot at 8. restore democracy in THIS country and protect it from the destruction of the corporations and neo conservatives.
