Another thought about McCain for Veep.
Unification of people who love their country, but disagree on how to advance it. No real choices for them, because corporations have bought both parties and special interests RULE. Special interests are therefore killing us.

Having two respected Senators of different parties could heal the nation and be of storybook worth. Bush REALLY shows up as the Big Bad Wolf, and corporations lose their stranglehold on the USA. They have to go back to the PEOPLE and be more responsive to them in order to stay in business.

Kerry/McCain could heal the nation. We need to show that while we disagree, we're not "Two Americas" at all. We're one country full of good, bad, flawed, righteous people. Let's really lead now. Throw off the money!

Let Kerry/McCain lead us to the promised land. :)

Give it a chance. I think this ticket would win BIG and would be a good arguement for the country.

1. McCain has betrayed our country.
He is a neocon and we have had enough of their evil. Do the GOPers think they will keep a toe-hold by horning in on the Democratic ticket?

Fix your own damned dishonorable party.

3. Your kidding right?
McCain is a staunch Republican who supports * and campaigns for him.

It would be nice if our future president might offer McCain a job but not the VP slot. Edwards should get the VP position.

...can it get any worse than this?

- You won't 'heal' anything by putting a GOPer on a Democratic ticket. You WILL drive more Dems to third parties. Perhaps this is the motivation behind this idiotic idea?

13. See, that's what I think.
Edited on Fri May-14-04 11:23 PM by Soup Bean
I don't think all politicians are scumbag sell-out whores. Some are real public servants; I happen to believe McCain is one. The Republicans wouldn't have any more control over congress than they do now, which is too much. The thing is, with a unity government, you might hammer out some common sense fixes to problems.

Nobody can have everything they want. Hasn't this silly war proven that already? The country is so divided. Only a watershed event will ever pull it back. Don't dismiss McCain as a sell out. He's REASONABLE and he wants the MONEY out of politics.

He reminds me of my father. He had the attitude of someone who grew up with depression era parents. They know things, simple truths. I look to them for guidance.

McCain is a good man. So is Pat Buchanan, Jim Jeffords, Al Franken, Jon Stewart. I admire them for being willing to listen to the other side. We need to do more talking to others than in watching TV.

Kerry/McCain would cause people to pay attention to government and service again. Slow down on the greed. Use common sense. Wake up, and such.

19. Hammer out common sense?
With the Jihad Republicans? Are you kidding? They've no love for McCain. Was Cohen able to insulate Clinton from Wag The Dog charges?

Unless you're a clueless puppet like Dubya, the office of Vice President, to quote a famous observation, isn't worth a bucket of warm spit. BUT... it has tremendous value as a launchpad for a president-in-waiting. Why waste that on a Republican? In 2012, we'll need a Democrat primed with the advantage of incumbency and national familiarity to thwart Republican ambitions for another season of hell.

23. What is 'common sense' about bringing a GOPer on a Dem ticket?
- Sell your BS somewhere else. There are scores of DEMOCRATS that would make a great VP or President. Why select a Republican over them? Are you actually TRYING to turn off Democrats?

9. Never!
McCain has been campaigning for Shrub. So even if he was an acceptable candidate (AND HE'S NOT!), the Repugs would simply run ads of him saying what a great leader Chimp is, how Chimp is a great man, how Chimp is doing the right thing, etc. etc.

We'd lose the VP spot as a powerful partisan spokesman. It would be a colossal mistake.

11. No goddamned fucking WAY!
Has McCain been on the stump for the past two years decrying the outrageous abuses of this administration? No. He's been shilling for them. Putting a Republican on the ticket means we don't think there's anything wrong with the current state of the Republican Party. I've resigned myself to voting for Kerry but if he pulls this shit there's NO WAY IN HELL I'll do it. The Democratic Governor wannabe here in Montana has ensured my non-vote by pulling the same stunt.

12. He protests, then folds
He is all talk. He asserts a strong position that sounds good, but then kowtows to the republican line. Example:

In the hearings re the $25 billion request for Iraq and Afghanistan funds, the first words out of his mouth were, "we will give you the $25 billion." THEN, he bitched, moaned and complained because Congress is not exercising its oversight power over the money!. YOU GOT IT BACKWARDS, SENATOR.

YOU DEMAND THE OVERSIGHT BEFORE YOU GIVE THE BLANK GODDAMN CHECK!

I have no use for a man who does not behave according to his principles.

15. No
It would be a terrific idea if I thought for one minute Republicans wanted to heal any divide.

They don't. They are not interested in healing. They are not interested in discourse. It's their way or the highway.

Besides, McCain may occasionally say something that sounds good but he always, always, always come home to shill for Bush.

16. Absolutely not! If Kerry should choose a Repub for anything,
(as Bill Clinton did to suck up to Repubs and the DLC and placed them in his White House and Cabinet. What did that get him but major grief!) I would just not go to the polls and vote this election because, why bother! You're either Democrat or Republican! No in between! McCain is a conservative Republican so why in the world would a DEMOCRAT put him anywhere in their Administration? And if he did, I would say he is pandering to both sides and therefore, he is an assho**e and not worthy of my DEMOCRATIC vote!

Something "happens" to Kerry, McCain is then Prez. You think the imeachment stuff was bad with Clinton? Your worse nightmare has not even started.

Then McCain gets to appoint the Supremes.

I trust him to count the silverware after the republicans come to dinner but no further.

Crap. I'd even think about voting for Nader if McCain were on the ticket.

22. Strange things could happen
Odd, McCain is popping up all over the place and people are comfortable with him, something is up. Just a space fart idea might be that the pubs know Bush* is going down and they will attempt to dump Bush* at the Sept. convention and replace him with McCain. Strange, but this nation loves fads and has a short attention span - a two month media blitz (ˆ la Arnie Schwarzenegger)could make him a contender. What the hell do I know?

24. McCain is an honest guy, but do his Dem fans know his actual voting record
It's pretty horrendous, especially when it comes to issues involving working Americans. He's got stronger character than most, but I'll pick results over character any day of the week. Feliks Dzershinsky of the Bolshevik Cheka was apparently a man of strong principle, but that didn't stop him from jailing and executing thousands of Mensheviks, SRs, Anarchists and Bolshevik dissidents.

25. you need to get a serious clue friend
McCain is the last thing we need to get a Dem elected.

McCain is no saint...he has repeatedly screwed the Navajo in his own state....he may speak out on occasion, but he is still "thick" with all the rich boys and is not too interested in anything beyond what serves him....like so many others.

We do NOT need McCain or anyone like him.

Hard enough to vote for Kerry- you get McCain in there ( altho he IS a repub and it ain't gonna happen)...you will lose a LOT-and I mean LOT- of votes.

Get a clue....McCain would spell the end of what is left of the Dem party.....
:eyes: I sure hope people give up this wacky idea soon...it is getting soooo old.....

Peace

26. No way. And can we stop this?!?
I'm getting a little tired of all this McCain worshiping.

I fully admit that he did a really stand-up thing when he defended Kerry's record. And in general, he seems to be a decent enough guy. But the fact of the matter is, he's a Republican. Not a moderate, middle-of-the-road kind of Republican, but a pretty hard core righty.

Worse than all of that, he's out there campaigning for Bush -- i.e. the guy who went after his wife and daughter in the 2000 GOP primary. That has to say something about him.

There are PLENTY of great Democratic choices out there who can woo independent voters and not alienate our base at the same time. McCain is not one of them.
