Ambien is great. Everyone takes it down at the State Dept.

Interview by Abdul Rahman Al-Rashed of Asharq Al-Awsat

Secretary Colin L. Powell
Washington, DC
November 5, 2003

2003/1138
(4:40 p.m. EST)

SECRETARY POWELL: -- from Panama to Nicaragua, from Nicaragua to Honduras, and that's our air base in Honduras, Soto Cono.

So in a helicopter it's Tegucigalpa, then back out to the -- Tegucigalpa to Soto Cono, then Soto Cono to College Station last night, then I had to change all of my software and take out all of the Central American software and put in the Chinese software to give a speech this morning in Texas.

QUESTION: So do you use sleeping tablets to organize yourself?

SECRETARY POWELL: Yes. Well, I wouldn't call them that. They're a wonderful medication -- not medication. How would you call it? They're called ambien, which is very good. You don't use ambien? Everybody here uses ambien.

QUESTION: I use it when I go on trip and long distance travel.

SECRETARY POWELL: Yeah. I didn't need it this time because I was in the same time zone.

QUESTION: I see.

SECRETARY POWELL: It's when I go to your part of the world. I need to get my rest.

4. Ambien rawks if you don't get the side effects though.
I don't think I've had any other than maybe withdrawal, like not being able to sleep well the third night if I've taken it two in a row - but even that I'm not sure of because it could just be I don't need the sleep that much after two good nights. I can wake up if I need to piss and remember it later too - good sign for sleeping pills in my book. Basically if you take it, you will get to sleep. If you try staying awake it's like your eyes get lazy and start not focusing and pointing on things.

5. I took an Ambien the other night
Thinking I could do my nightly reading- lol. After about 20 minutes the words were blurry and I thought I saw people in my closet. (No people, the door was open and it was just my clothes.)

It DOES make you hallucinate and I can't imagine taking it every night. It disturbs me that the entire White House does. :scared:

10. Hmmmm...never had that happen...
...but I always split them in half now. Works just as well for me. I even took one in the hospital overnight and they woke me up every two hours to take my blood pressure and I remember being really well oriented.

12. Agreed, LoZoccolo - I have fibromyalgia and sleep is a
big problem occasionally. Ambian rocks - I've never had a side affect, not even a "hangover" or withdrawal. I try not to take it too often, and when I do, I am IN the bed. Hubby says it's funny as hell to hear me just fall asleep in the middle of a sentence........

8. Didn't Colin Powell "hint" about this?
He said something to the effect that "everyone" in the WhiteHouse used Ambien.
