The Iraq War is retribution for 9/11
Edited on Thu May-13-04 01:53 PM by info being
I realized the obvious today. When Bush supporters argue that the Iraq War is justified because of what they did to us on 9/11, I finally understand what they mean.

Only when you embrace racism to define "they" not as Iraqi's, but as "brown people from over there" does the claim make logical sense. So, yeah, for racists in this country, they are right...the Iraq War is retribution for 9/11. I get it.

Of course one would have to peel apart the psychology of racism to fully understand where these Bush supporters are coming from...but of course through their illogical arguments they've learned to keep that topic safely at a distance.

I get it.

1. One of their favorite techniques,
as emphasized by their doyonne Ann Coulter, is the use of sarcasm to shut down argument. If someone questions our involvement in Iraq, simply say, "I suppose you've forgotten 3,000 dead on 9/11."

If they suggest that Iraq and 9/11 were unrelated, use one of these crowd pleasing lines.

"9/11 showed that we can't wait for them to attack us. I suppose you'd be happier if we all got blown up by terrorists?"

"Do you really want to wait for the terrorists to attack? What are you suicidal?"

"Why do you hate America?"

"Do you really think that Saddam didn't anything to do with September 11th? Nothing at all?"

And so on and so forth.

2. We might ask how they define "them"

10. Good question
"You don't know who the terrorists are? You liberals are more screwed up than I thought."

"That's why we don't want liberals in charge of a war, they don't even know who the enemy is."

Anything to keep from answering that question straight.

3. That realization struck me last year
It's very depressing, actually.

One might say that racism is this nation's 'original sin'(in many ways). Perhaps it will be the end of us, too.

4. I was surprised (I don't know why)
to hear a CNN anchor person saying something about 9/11 mixed up with the torture/abuse. As if this is how the US is dealing with it.

You are right though, that is the only way it makes sense. Like someone earlier said that someone he came in contact with who wanted to "kill them all" and made no apologies for being racist or fascist. Didn't care.

7. No surprise here either...racism is terrible in this country
Edited on Thu May-13-04 02:07 PM by info being
I have coworkers who are racist...making comments about "a certain demographic", etc., etc. Most Americans have not evolved beyond the racism we saw in the '50's and '60's, only learned to disguise their racism with more PC phrases.

6. It all strated with Bush
when he said, "You're with us, or you're with the enemy."

Ahh, what a coalition-builder our great leader is.

9. Why am I reminded of the Big Lebowski?
"This is what happens when you FUCK A STRANGER IN THE ASS!"
"Hey man! That's my fucking car! Now I kill your fucking car!"
"Hey man, that's not his car!"

11. They can blame Abu Ghraib on "a few bad apples"
but they blame the whole Islamic world for 9/11.
