2. Take action with what?
All resources are fighting an immoral and illegal war in Iraq. Besides, he can't find the Sudan on a map. But if you think about it, all the Crooked Ones reasons he uses now for being in Iraq should mean we have to go to the Sudan. Rape, torture, rights abuses, mass murders, terror....all the things we are in Iraq, now, for.

5. well yeah, I agree, I don't know if we should militarily intervene at this
point but I do think it is within the scope of the US and UN to figure out what to do to focus people on what is going on there.

7. Hey, progress!
Twenty or thirty years ago it would have been:

Oil, skin color, religion.

Meet the new Boss. The same as the old Boss.

6. One has to wonder why - they have oil.
If you were to drive down the big streets of Khartoum, you would see offices of all the big oil companies. The inconvenient situation for these oil companies is that the oil is not near Khartoum. It is in the southern region of Sudan where religious and ethnic differences have fueled the war that has raged there for all these many years.

The oil companies stir the unrest and they are hampered by the unrest they stir. They stir the unrest because the chaotic environment allows them to get more of the oil for themselves with little payout to a corrupt Sudanese government.

So the question is this: if genocide is involved and a free-flowing supply of oil is on the line, why not invade? These dynamics were issued on the course to invade Iraq.

But then, maybe there's not enough oil in reserve there to bother.

8. Sudan is not on the PNAC wish list yet...
Edited on Thu May-13-04 08:07 AM by mike_c
...and even the generic "massive U.S.force application" isn't prescribed because it would serve little purpose in the context of PNAC global power projection contexts. Buncha poor dark-skinned people killing each other in a place where the U.S. has few immediate interests? Not a problem.
