21. We should protest our "government" in the streets
It will help us protect OUR own ass.

People who don't overthrow dictators tend to get invaded and tortured.

Protests in the streets will show the world that we DON'T regard W as our leader.

message about him!

This IS how we win, not by BASHING the gop (too much) or hammering bush, but by saying what a GREAT president kerry will make, and how HE can clean up this terrible mess!

An earlier thread I started that has some concrete suggestions for us to become SURROGATES FOR KERRY. It's up to us, one-on-one, in the trenches with our fellow Americans. Each of us is a little alarm clock, to wake them up, one by one.

2. The invasion is over.
The only thing left is for a few thousand more soldiers to die for nothing, bedlam in the middle east, oil crisis after oil crisis, islamic fundies having a brand new big oil rich country to operate from and an alcoholic fundamentalist idiot of a Pretzledent and his minons to blame for it.

Geo-political nit-wits, the lot of them.

7. WAY TO GO YOU NEOCON MORONS
The neocons got exactly what they wanted. They got control of the Big 3 - the presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court. They implemented their stupid ass neocon theory to preemptively strike Iraq. It's a total bust and they won't be able to blame Clinton for this one (they will try but it doesn't stick anymore) :wtf:

11. Is this much worse than what you predicted when this whole mess started?
It is for me. I read every article on the concerns of the US invading Iraq before it actually happened so I expected the looting, no WMD, I expected that there would not be any flowers thrown at our soldiers, I expected it to take longer and cost more than what our "leaders" claimed it would. I still expect civil war once the coalition forces pull out...that's July 1st now, right?

But I never expected the torture...I don't know, maybe a very small, dark part of me did, but I sure as hell didn't expect photos and video. And I sure as hell didn't expect to see a woman younger than me conducting such horrific acts. (not that the gender and age really matter at the end of the day...but it was still shocking).

My biggest fear was that all my expectations were met. This is beyond my worst fears. Now what?

22. makes you wonder if ignorance really is bliss after all, doesn't it?
that phrase "ignorance is bliss" made absolutely no sense to me before now. As a Texan, I knew having Bush in the WH was going to be insane, but I had ignorant faith in others (aka: Congress) that invading Iraq again would never happen even if I knew Bush really wanted to do it...checks and balances and all. Sure, he would destroy education, women's rights, gay rights, the environment...but there's no way he could start a fucking war, right???? right??? The Democrats will pick up more seats in the Senate and House in '02 so it'll be all right!!!!

Hell, even 6 months before the war I sat smug in my living room laughing at my TV when watching Bush blabber on and on about Iraq being evil and thinking that the inspections would last a while. And I was SO fucking smug too. Thinking "well shit, if I can see that this is nonsense then certainly everyone else can too!!!" My husband always told me my biggest problem was that I applied logic to everything. He was right.

Your insight is very much a double edged sword mopaul. I envy you and don't at the same time.

19. No, this is about the way many, many people said it would go.
One of the new WH talking points this week is that "Nobody expected this, so how can you blame us?" Nobody seems to be buying it, for a change.

July 1 is when Iraq becomes "sovereign" again. US troops will be there for a looooong time to come---at the new Iraqi government's invitation, of course.

20. We are as safe here as in the U.S., but the fearful hand of Bush
stretches everywhere. Evil is everywhere...

Even to our peaceful University (Subsequently, this student was removed from the University):

...Titled "This is the Second Warning ..." the following message appeared on a Yahoo! Groups message board Saturday.

"We fight asking for God's heavens and Almoshrekeen fight asking for the Devals (sic) money and wealth. We fight with God's promise and they fight with Bush's promise. Oh God the most powerful in your hands we fight. This is the second call for Muslims in the USA to start leavinbg soon from L.A., the East side and New York. (sic)Alaaah Akbaar, Allah Akbaar to Bush and his Black House gang. You will hear from the (sic) Mojahideen very soon." (Signed) Alaah Akbaar, Daleel_ Almojahid.

This warning followed the posting of a message a week ago by the Jeddah-based al Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of threatened major al Qaeda attacks in those cities.

That warning was reported by www.debka.com, a self-described "Internet publication devoted to independent, investigative reporting and forward analysis in the fields of international terrorism, intelligence, international conflict, Islam, military affairs, security and politics."

A similar message also appeared last week on a Yahoo! Group bulletin board (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Daleel_Al-Mojahid_/message/18). This message is now missing in the group's archives (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Daleel_Al-Mojahid_/messages)....

Almojahid also deals with violence against America in general on his Yahoo! Groups site, writing in one post (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Daleel_Al-Mojahid_/message/27)

"For us America and Israel have became one that's why America is now on the line of fire from our mojahideen, America has became our biggest enemy and destroying its economy means destroying and dismantling Israel's power and dream of controlling the word. For that America
will be attacked for the sole reason of cutting the heart of the Israeli state."

However, it seems that Almojahid is not who he claims. Information obtained from his e-mails indicates that his real (or other) name is Salaah Aldeen, and he is using a computer at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (www.aus.ac.ae) to send his threatening messages.

While the search engine for the university web site produced no results for either name, Almojahid did respond to an e-mail asking who Aldeen is and why he was apparently using the computers at the University of Sharjah.

He wrote (sic) "I am salaah aldeen...knowing that i am using the american university of sharjah network is something you should know why with out asking ! there are 4,000 students
here..;O)...enjoy."... http://www.americandaily.com/item/3443

17. Since this is the designated rant zone...
ARGGGGGGGGGGGH! Everytime I think it can't get any worse, it gets worse! This has to be in the top ten lowest moments our nation has ever experienced. Even in Vietnam, we didn't drag the rest of the world into the mud with us, and in the civil war we had Abraham Lincoln. Now what do we have? Zero credibility, leadership of a most unfortunate character, and armed forces stretched thin and disrespected by the people who kept braying "Support the troops!" at us as though just saying that made them morally superior. May God have mercy on our souls.

24. It truly is the end of the world as we have known it.
That may NOT necessarily be a bad thing. Chances are HIGH that it IS a very bad thing--it certainly seems that way right now.

Our future has been hijacked by a criminal mob currently occupying the highest offices of our Republic. This is not an exaggeration and it is not funny. They are doing what criminals do. They are looting our treasury and they are implementing far reaching decisions that will, if we do not stop them, soon enslave, if not kill us all.

The good news is, some of us are waking up. Some of us are recognizing that this absolutely must be stopped--and the will of the people must again be a guiding hand on the ship of State. If we are wise, we will begin once again to BUILD bridges rather than destroy them. We are going to need all the allies we can get.

29. Bonjour!
I would not blame our allies for being skeptical. Most Americans do not understand the consequences of American foreign policy.

Before the Iraq war I participated in an antiwar march in San Fancisco that easily comprised over a quarter million people. Hundreds of thousands of people protested in other cities as well--although little news was made of it in this country. I don't know how much press it was given abroad.

All I can say is, the continuation of what is going on in this country will not only be bad for US, it will be bad for everyone. Our allies don't need to do us any favours, why should they? But I'm sure they must be considering the long-range consequences of a unilateral superpower hijacked by criminals with, apparently, no regard for humanity.

37. We have a problem.
We can't politically do something in Irak.
And we have to.

We can't because that would be endorsing the Bush's policy and we don't want to abjure ourselves.

We have to, because Irak is just our backyard.

If Bush is ousted, I think we'll go to Irak with an UN mandate. But inclusive the worst, everything is possible before Janurary 2005, the election of Bush included. In this case, I hope our politicians have anticipated this scenario.

George was running for President against Al Gore.

Everything I dreaded, in a dark intuitive sort of way, is playing out, so I am NOT at all taken by surprise, but incredibly disheartened that this tragedy has been allowed to play out for so long now without an uprising of SOME SORT!

(And I don't mean "insurgents'" uprising in Iraq)

30. Before the war I was living in Phoenix
and I wrote a letter to the Arizona Republic that said in part, a invasion of Iraq would provide an American proxy and a handy target, and an incubator for terrorists. The "Arizona Repugnant" totally ignored me. Not a surprise. They never acknowledged any of my dozen or so letters while I was in Arizona.

All I said in that letter has come true. And amazingly the part about providing a handy target for terrorists has been seen by the right as a good thing. I often hear, "I'd rather them killing (us) over there than over here. "Can you say "perverse."

Now I'm in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Went from the frying pan to the boiler. The Sun Sentinel printed one of my anti-Bush letters. But the power of denial is still strong. Even when they handed us so obvious a prize as the prison atrocities.

I see a lot of the current political climate as the backlash to the Viet Nam peace movement and its subsequent "victory." That's what Kerry is facing now. Its a testosterone thing and not very subject to intellectual analysis.

I guess we can only stay our own course and fight for rationality. But I think we will see much more craziness before we win again.

We've been in this fine fucking mess for quite some time. It's only with the release of the torture photos that a whole bunch of people have begun to figure out what's real and what's craven administration spin and butt-covering.

As people wake up and begin to understand the depth of the morass the corrupt Bush administration has entrenched us in, they're going to be p-i-s-t mad.
