The Kerry "McCain for Sec. of Defense" comment - brilliant!!
Edited on Wed May-12-04 04:25 PM by DancingBear
Remembering that it was said in the context of who would replace Rumsfeld in the CURRENT administration, look what it does:

1) It shows Kerry looking on both sides of the aisle (Levin was also mentioned) for the best possible person

2) It shows his "liberal" persona to be untrue, as framed by Karl and the boys

3) it wakes up the McCain Repubs (and there are plenty of them) and shows them an alternative to Dim Son

4) It will carry into the GE, where Kerry can reflect back on that statement and show he is not a blind party loyalist, as painted by Karl and the boys (indy voters like that).

Nice job, JK.

3. It really pulls a carpet from under their FUTURE arguments, too.

But, mostly, I think it shakes the remaining cobwebs from the minds of moderate Republicans who weren't yet ready to abandon Bush. Now they can start thinking, "Yeah...why doesn't Bush choose someone who WE feel is more competent?"

5. He specified liberal as framed by the rightwingers.
Noone is saying their arguments against liberalism are legit.

7. I was waiting for this one

Nothing. But first, one has to do something a little more important - like win this election.

The way to do it to to pre-empt the attacks on you by the other side.

Kerry just did it.

In these times, that is how it MUST be done - you must show you can appeal to all parts of the political spectrum - within reason, of course.

Dim Son won by the whole "uniter not a divider thing, remember - well, that and cheating. But the point is that Kerry needs to show he is not what he is being made out to be - what better way than to "jump aisles" for a Cabinet member?

Would he do it?- who knows. Do people now think he would consider it? You bet.

"You take two steps to the left,
And two steps to the right,
Then you stand in the middle and you hang on tight"
