"They've won, they've already won!"
i'm watching "the siege" right now and horrified at how similiar it is to what's going on now. the scene where they're explaining different torture methods for this possible cell just played and denzel washington certianly said what we've all been saying and thinking
"if you do this, then everything we've fought for, everything we've bled for, everything we've died for is gone and they've won, they've already won!"

My God, who ever thought this would come true, what happened to my country???

by the way, i finally reached my 100th post!

1. I just saw that, too
"If you torture this man, then everything we have fought for and bled for is over, and they've won. They've already won."

4. that movie scared the shit out of me
as did Bob Roberts, now we are living both movies
and people bitch about wag the dog, this situation is way worse

a note: on September 11th,2001, as I was watching the news with my co-workers I walked away and said "they've already won", I wonder if I did that subconsciously? Reading your post reminded me of that.

8. Now that you are guilty of thoughtcrime...
Rent John Hurt in 1984, and learn to love Big Brother...because it's not enough to just obey him. You must love him Doubleplusgood.

6. This isn't Hollywood.
In Hollywood world, you have two hours to torture or not torture. And Denzel is the hero of his movie every time.

But out here, even when they win, tomorrow happens and it isn't exactly the same as a movie, cut and edited and frozen in time and effect.

We lost this one. We have tomorrow to take our constitution back. Maybe Denzel won't be the hero. We'll find new ones.

They've only won for now.

It all depends on what we do next.

2. "The Siege" is an excellent movie
I'm always the one who when watching a movie will say...'that can't happen in 'real life'...

I know better now. Art imitates life. :(

5. bigwillq - definately check out this movie
Denzel Washington, Tony Shalub (sp?) and Annette Bennig... It's so timely. Oh yeah, and Bruce Willis also has a part, which ironicly fits his real life political views.

7. I'm reading Fahrenheit 451 for the first time
It's no longer science "fiction".

It's just eerie.
