Liberal radio is airing bad jokes and worst taste (NY Daily News)
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/col/story/192671p-166266c.html

It is hard for me to believe the double standard. The guy (Steve Goodwin) even called GM to protest their ads appearing on AirAmerica....

1. he says it himself; they're *jokes*
This guy needs a sense of humor. We need an outlet on the left, after having to put up with so much sh*t from the right.

2. Yeah, not as funny as "good American pornography"
and torturing = having a good time

In the end, it will bring more listeners to AAR. new Yorkers just are this way.

4. The guy has won a Pulitzer prize... but it seems to me that the
Heading should say "worse" taste and not "worst" taste... or am I not reading correctly.

6. Ah, the Personality Cult of GW Bush!
I guess Goodwin is shocked (Shocked! I tell you!) that he didn't tune into a on-the-air lesson in Reiki and a group-sing of "Kumbaya"...

what's that line about Limpballs? "He's just a sounding board for what his listeners are thinking..."

So be it with Franken. Sorry, Steve, we folks on the left end of the stick are sick and tired of you Cons, and if our radio hosts seem "angry" to you, fuck it, maybe that is a reflection of our general mood. I know it is of mine.

Oh, and don't feel too smug about the results from your call to GM...They pour more money into the GOP than you could ever count in 4 lifetimes. They'd pull their ads if all Franken did was sit around and whine about how "mean" Rush is...

22. Yeah, but just think...
Ditto-head Legions have had 25 years of being indoctrinated until they're at the "Rush's thoughts-MY thoughts" point.

But they can't say that aboout the Left, can they? We grew this anger all by ourselves.

7. When he bewcomes as critical of Savage and Hannity....
maybe he'd be worth taking seriously.

Air America at its worst is tame compared to the rantings of many of the right-wing talkers.

Hypocracy, thy name is Goodwin.

8. NY Times radio?
He said liberal radio outlets include NPR and the NY Times? Umm, I did not know the Times had a radio show? Can I hear Paul Krugman on there?

And, if I am not mistaken, is not NPR a little bit right of center?

18. WQXR - an FM station -classical music. Only Wall street news and adds
Edited on Wed May-12-04 01:49 PM by robbedvoter
If anyone ever doubted what is the NYT intended market, just take a listen to that. For the rich and pompous (I like the music, but was so turned off by the "marketing bias' that I always avoid it. I have CDs

10. From your link:
Ryndee Carney, GM's manager of marketing communications, said the ads were wrongly picked up from an earlier deal with WLIB. She said the station was ordered to "cease and desist" yesterday, and added: "GM will not advertise on any Air America affiliates."
Time to boycott GM??????

12. Why aren't people boycotting them already???
I have personally refused to purchase one of their vehicles until they actually start investing in and promoting fuel efficient models.

This is just another reason to AFFIRM my ALREADY EXISTING boycott of GM.

15. I Drive A GM Car...

But as next year it'll be two decades old! It's almost a "classic" now and in top notch condition.

Gas hog, yeah, but at least I don't have airbags to explode on me or "OnStar" to spy on me!

Is it just me or is anyone ELSE creeped out by the OnStar ads? How they can unlock your door, find your car, even set off the alarm system or honk the horn from a satellite... BRRRR!

When this car bites the asphalt (hopefully not for another thirty years) I'm getting another pre-airbag, pre-onstar vehicle.

And I've never driven anything BUT American.

24. If you have to get a new car, that all will change
The only cars that are really remotely American anymore are Toyota and Honda. The vast majority of GM cars are assembled in Mexico.

11. "During a day of torture by radio..."
"During a day of torture by radio, I heard ads for Hewlett-Packard, Greyhound and, especially, General Motors. I asked GM why it appeared in such shows. "

Jesus H Christ! Every time I tune into a talk format station here in Chicagoland the choices are: RW hate radio, sports, religion. I'm one of the vile, disgusting "liberals". I'm female and only follow the NFL as a sport. And I think religion is a very personal, private relationship with God for which I don't care to have another's personal private views foisted on me.

At least that jerk has options he can turn to and feel just giddy about.

Time to contact the major advertisers of stations in my market and inquire as to why they choose to sponsor hate.

25. What I don't understand is
Air America has HP, Greyhound, GM, yet when I listen to AM Radio hate speak like Flush, Insanity and other nut-cases I hear adds for Steel Buildings, Ciprical (is that a drug that makes your d$%k hard?), Some obscure mattress company...It's all like stupid info-mercial stuff you'd see at 0347 AM in the morning on the Home Shopping Network.

My question then has to be, "Who is REALLY paying to keep this crap on the air?"

This is a pet peeve of mine, but I recently drove down the 5 freeway from around Fresno to San Diego, CA. This is supposed to be a progressive state, but all I could get on the radio the whole time were various shades of Rush. Nothing but RUSHBOTS everywhere. It was so bad that in one area, I could hear Rush, and move one spot up the dial, and it was the same Rush with about a 3 second time difference. It is no wonder people are effing brain-dead and brainwashed in this country. NOT ONE SINGLE PROGRESSIVE RADIO PROGRAM ALONG THE ENTIRE WEST COAST OF CALIFORNIA???

As we say in the Navy WTFO?

14. GM Doesn't Advertise On AAR?
Excuse me, but in the last couple of hours I've heard ads from both OnStar and XM -- and BOTH are OWNED by GM.

And XM actually created an entire stream FOR AAR!

So what the Hell is this idiot talking about?!

Subject: Liberal Radio is Airing bad jokes and worst taste - 5/12/2004

Thank you , thank you, Michael Goodwin!
I was so frustrated after hearing the "blowing up steam" Limbaugh remarks about torture and the Inhoffe sadistic speech on the Senate floor!
Thanks to Goodwin's selective outrage, I found the place that restored my sanity! Just in time to hear Al Franken's gentle deconstruction of your bias. "Humor is like music"
And truth is like air to me, Mr Goodwin. This is the difference between Air America and....any other part of the media.
You may have very well saved my sanity! Bless you, Michael Goodwin!

21. My letter
I just wish I hadn't forgotten about Vince '5 Investigations into my Death' Foster.

>>>
Does Steve Goodwin want any cheese with his whine? Is a liberal radio host comparing the Bush family of proven criminals, dating to prior to Prescott Bush's illegal dealings with the Nazis, to the Corleone family any worse than Rush Limbaugh & Sean Hannity saying the US torture of Iraqi prisoners was harmless fraternity fun or Limbaugh implying the John Kerry had the late Senator Heinz killed so he could marry Theresa Heinz?

And, unlike Right Wing talk radio, they do have some confrontational interviews – Franken has a daily give and take with a dittohead and had Republican John McCain on his show, Rhodes had an interview with Ralph Nader on her first show. And, unlike factless Limbaugh, who says that his listeners do not need to go anywhere else for news, Rhodes is well researched, cites her sources and urges her listeners to check her facts.<<<<

Has this fuckwad ever complained about other "bad taste" media? Or was Franken's little Communion joke just the worst he's heard? Nice sheltered life.
