I have no reason to believe she's lying about much at all. Poor commander, in over her head- all of that I'd agree with but knowing what a clusterfuck it is everytime MI/MPs have to work together, her story rings very true to me.
Also, where is the MI Commander in all of this? The one who was responsible for those interrogators? They reported to MG Barbara Fast and not to Karpinski.
Another thing that rings very true to me is that MI is notorious for trying to keep MPs out of their operations and will use the excuse that they're dealing with compartmentalized intel, that you may have the security clearance but you have no "need to know" so 'get out'. There was one plucky Senator yesterday who asked Taguba about this and Taguba's weak answer was that he stopped at Karpinski. Why? Why is Karpinski, a reservist, tossed out to the wolves and MG Barbara Fast, active-duty, protected & rewarded? The answer is between those commas; also, MI cannot afford this scandal because then they'll have to start discussing CIA, DIA, FBI, third party nationals conducting interrogations... etc.
Then also... Karpinski was in charge of several prisons. If she was such a poor commander, then why is this the only place that had problems according to Taguba?
I have no idea how good or how bad she was. To me they're really all the same. This is the typical officer's game- CYA, protect your bodies (read Active Duty officers) & toss out a few Enlisted people. Every enlisted person in the military knows this.
