Petition to stop Student Voter Supression
There is a serious problem going on around the country effecting students and we need you to help Rock the Vote raise awareness to change it. College students who try to register and vote using their campus residence are being denied their right to vote by local election officials who claim that campus and school addresses are not considered a "permanent" residence. In fact, in 1979 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to deny someone their right to vote based on their residency.

1. Thanks for this, DA
Wisconsin's actually pretty good with this -- it's explicitly stated if you've got some way to prove you live on campus (phone bill, residence hall agreement, even an affidavit from your RA, etc.), and have been there for 10 days, you can vote there (alternatively, you can vote absentee in your home district/state, if you so choose).

I never had trouble when I was a student, and my current polling place is a college student union (and I do see students in there voting).

about this a few years ago (the second time Clinton ran) in Cincinnati. There had been some issues with UC students being allowed to register, but not so much with Xavier. Of course at the time we assumed it was just a VRWC since the UC students tend to be a bit more 'left' than the XU crowd. ;)

4. It's a problem here in Texas
surprise, surprise.
I think it was in March, during elections, a group of students from Prairie View A&M (?) were not allowed to vote. It was even more screwed-up because of redistricting. Many people were concerned that it was double disenfranchisement.

5. I went to college in Texas
and I had no problems voting at all.
I attended Southwestern University, in Georgetown, TX. I just showed them a proof of residence form (Our R.A.'s had them ready for us) and we were good to go.
I also got my first jury notice in Hutchinson County.

I know both the Young Democrats and the Young Pubs(they always had more money for kegs) worked very hard to help the freshmen register, maybe the Young Democrats need some help down there at Prairie View.
