NPR: Some Iraqis are suspicious of beheading
The reporter played it down, but I suspect the suspicion is widespread. The anchor asked him what the response was among Iraqis to the beheading, he said, "Well, some people have conspiracy theories, but most of them just expressed disapproval of the beheading."

It reminds me of an odd Peter Jennings moment, after one of the bombings in Baghdad. They played a clip of a woman saying she thought it was the U.S. that did it, then it came back to Jennings, who said, "Well, she has no evidence of that."

I wasn't the only person who thought that was weird. I talked to my sister about a week after seeing that, we were talking about Iraq, and she brought up that Jennings thing out of the blue.

It just makes me wonder what kind of a different world the Iraqis must be living in, compared to us. They are there in Iraq, seeing the war as it is actually happening. And it's not being filtered by Jennings, et al.

1. It makes too much sense
Maybe AQ really did it but this took the heat off the admin perfectly. Now everyone wants to nuke the place and anything else will seem moderate by comparison.

2. the boy who cried wolf
the problem is that Bush and the US media have lied and lied and lied so often, that they have no credibility left.

What this means is that they will ALWAYS be subject to suspicion, they will and can never be trusted, even on something like this

They've proved that they will spin the most outrageous lies, and the media will uncritically report those lies as fact.

SO yes, the Iraqis are living in a world of reality, a reality that Americans are for the most part totally clueless about.

4. This incident in no way takes the heat off the US as "occupiers"
Damn it! We are in their country, killing their people, destroying their country, their homes, their utilities, their air, their water.
We, the US, has opend up their country to Al-qaeda and other terrorists that would never have been their with Saddam in power..he was the only 'terrorist' that the Iraqi people had to deal with. All of the blood of Iraq--yes even back to the atocities of a US-supported Saddam--in on our hands...and mostly Republican hands because they are the ones who supported Saddam early on (Rummy shaking hands, closing a deal proves it) and they are the ones who have brought us the shame and disgrace of an invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation that had not and was not a threat to the US. DAMN THEM ALL!!

6. One should never believe
One should find out. Ask questions. Even if it does not lead to where you wish to go.
