Edited on Tue May-11-04 11:36 PM by TankLV
killed so horribly this week.

I am so sad and sorry that things have reached this point.

Edited for correctness of timeline.

I thought it was today, since that is the first I heard about it.

I cannot bear to look or read in detail what happened.

its the thought that counts
i agree. there's been too much joking about this stuff. Did you see the pictures of his family that the news was showing? they're real people and their kid just got his head lopped off.

9. I've not seen any posts even remotely joking about this on DU
The freepers, however, are in a circle jerk because his father was one of the anti-war people they "outed" a couple of months ago.

This thread was the first one that I saw about this topic, and it just peeved me a bit. Didn't mean to start a flame war.

18. sorry...
I was feeling very upset and stressed out yesterday, so I was a little hypersensitive and got pissy. It happens occasionally.

4. I don't understand your reply.
Did I miss something.

Someone was killed in a horrible, gruesome way. The most gruesome way immaginable.

Am I wrong?

There are plenty of other posts dealing with the what ifs and whys and causes.

I just want to express my deepest saddness and ... there are just no word to express fully how I feel about this tragedy.

I don't even want to imagine what he went thru - I refuse to even look at the pictures - of his atrocity or the prison atrocities.

5. He died days ago
The video was merely released today. He is calling attention to the fact that many people died today. Some perhaps more horribly than Berg did.

It may seem harsh but what makes this event so horrible to us is that we witnessed it. There are horrors far worse than this on a daily basis in war.

This in no way diminishes the horror of what we witnessed. But it is an attempt to remember the others that are being killed every day.

7. Thank you for your explaination.
But I was trying to limit this to just this one horrific incident.

I realize that there are countless others that go unreported or publicized - and they all deserve our thoughts and prayers.

I had wanted to limit these thoughts to this particular person.

That is all.

11. I understand and my hopes and sympathy go out to his family
They are going to be dragged through things that no one should be pulled through. They are going to need all the strength they can get.

3. i'll pay respects
just can't get it out of my mind...I got ZERO work done today after 1 p.m. It was hard enough for me to read the news stories; I don't dare watch the video, even though my mind already has an image of what happened..an image i can't erase

8. The vid is worse than I thought...
It wasn't a clean, "off with your head", guillotine ordeal... oh no, no,no...

One of the most gruesome vids I've seen. grim, really grim. It was truly painful to watch.

6. Thanks, TankLV. It has been another bad day.
I watch the Newshour, they have a silent tribute to the fallen soldiers each evening. I think they need to widen their scope. Real people are being killed. This isn't just the TV.

15. I haven't even watched the video
and I don't plan to. No one should ever have to watch their loved ones die like this. Notwithstanding the many who have died in this war, this man like all innocents who have bled for madness deserve our respects.

You get an amen from me TankLV.

This is sinking faster than a lead balloon.

Why am I not surprised?

So very sad.

I need a time out for awhile - too much depressing overload lately.

And the paperwork at work is piling up.

God bless us all - we sorely need it now more than ever.

Thank all of you who have taken the time to express a moment of positive thoughts.

19. Which poor man? ~ Oh the American and not the scores of Iraqis
One American dies a horrible death and we pray but what about the scores of poor Iraqi men who also lost their lives, some for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Granted they were not murdered in spectacular fashion but they are still dead and yet not a mention of prayer for them. We are a nation of hypocrites. It is only going to get worse unless we accept responsibility for the chaos we have instilled upon that part of the world.

20. Thank you for your humanity..
.. I was heartbroken over the horrific death this man suffered. I feel for his family that must endure the obscene sensationalism of his death through the video and audio playing around the world. The idea that people can watch something like that, and not become violently ill or even drop dead, makes me worry for our future.. So many have become so densitized that they have witnessed things much worse as entertainment.

I am also heartbroken for everyone who has lost their lives in this unjust war... and in Afghanistan.. also an unjust war (considering the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia).

22. Nice sentiment
but I think his parents, family and friends need the prayers more right now.

Not to mention prayers for the entire USA. We have stumbled into darkness.
