1. I feel the same way
I feel the best years are behind us. :-(

I'm glad I knew the peace and prosperity of the Clinton years. I really feel bad for future generations.

2. Pretty fucking discouraging
isn't it? Peace is always possible. We have to keep at it. I KNOW you will. It seems we are in for a long haul of bad times. Went through that in Nam but this seems much worse and probably will be. Thank god there are all you good people out there, it keeps me from giving up entirely on the human race.

3. I'm 40-something
I have 3 sons.

The oldest (14) knows he's screwed by the debt if not being drafted. The younger 2 are figuring it out.

7. 36 with 4 sons.
They are all pretty young but the thought of them growing up in a constant state of war is very depressing to my husband and I. We were just talking about the Berg family and the absolute anguish they must feel having to witness their son die that horrible death. If it were me, I would have to be committed.

12. My youngest had to express some sadness on Mother's Day.....
Edited on Tue May-11-04 08:56 PM by tnlefty
He was concerned about ALL of the mother's who had lost children. He was sad for the ones who have had their children maimed. He teared up but then he rebounded pretty quickly.

I just hate this shit!!!!!

14. He is on his way to being a good liberal.
We need more caring like that in our ravaged society that considers the likes of Hannity and O'Lielly journalists.

You should take a moment to pat yourself on the back for raising a fine young boy. It is nice to witness little bodies with such big hearts.

5. World War III
I agree. I think we are seeing the beginning of World War III.

Very frightening stuff. I'm 25. I can't imagine raising a family right now.

6. I think the last month or so have just been very dark
As polarized as things were before, as the stakes rachet up ever higher, and the costs gouge deeper and deeper, well, "sigh" is a good word. "500-lb. weight" when I see the news works too. We are at war--not just with terrorists, not just physically, but here at home, emotionally, spiritually. I don't know if I'm more exhausted in spirit by the horrid slaying of that poor young man, or by my anger at just another in the huge pile of insults the right delivers--today with Inhofe's inane interpretation of where outrage belongs. Both assault my spirit, and it just seems very dark, hopeless, grim lately.

16. Very dark times indeed
I myself thought that child pornography was illegal. To think that soldiers were videotaping prison guards raping young Iraqi boys is downright sickening.

How is the right going to explain this one? More fraternity style hazing?

Violence should never be the primary means of diplomacy. But unfortunately, this is our new legacy. The one brought upon us by the shrub administration.

I am afraid that we are going to face an ever increasingly violent world with us as Americans being the target and getting no sympathy from the other nations.

It is a very, very dark time indeed.

11. I think you're right.
And there is worse to come. Sanctions have been imposed on Syria, now. And once Peak Oil starts to bite, and we face direct competition for resources with China....

I, like you, have no children. And I'm very glad that's the case.

13. No redemption
I'm not sure we can redeem ourselves from this one.

Unfortunately, the United States is going to have to face a long period of armed conflict.

I guess since abusing African Americans had grown unfashionable, there were no more Native Americans to use and abuse, we had to pick on the Iraqi Arabs.

We still haven't fixed the problems with the abuses that were already perpetrated in our own nation. So now we go out and magnify the abuses on the center stage in the world arena by at least an order of magnitude.

Perhaps we might still salvage a glimmer of hope by turning Rumsfeld over to the Iraqis to answer for war crimes.

It won't happen and we are going to have the music.

15. Bear up well
I saw but had not time to respond to your other thread about releasing all the photos, etc. and agree it is necessary.
We must stand WITNESS to the atrocities the bushita hellhounds have released.

The pendulum has swung, seemingly off the chart right now, but must swing back and justice will prevail.

18. Go to the war timeline..........
That somebody posted on another site. Find me a time period frow now until sometime around 400 BC where there has not been a war. Thanks.

This is no justification for war by any means. War has always existed, just not always with US soldiers dying.
