We Call for the Torture Pics To Be Released But NOT Look At The Results?
i don't get it.

this folks is the RESULT of our 'brave men and women' treating W's "Enemy Combatant's" WITHOUT benefit of the Geneva Convention. WITHOUT benefit of human decency. with the Green Light of the Administration.

this was DIRECT retaliation.

i watched. i cried. the torture pics made me weep. the murder on video made me weep.

equally.

it needs to be seen. it needs to be seen.

THIS is what your pResident has created. THIS is WHY he MUST be held accountable.

release it all. watch it all. this is reality. this is 2004. the worst is yet to come.

get ready. stay strong.

1. I don't need to see them, Matcom
I know they're there. That's plenty for me. They couldn't make me any more disgusted with * or the war or the RW or the media.

I can't watch such videos or pictures, but I feel I can trust the consensus I get here about them.

5. an HONEST question if i may
DID you look at the released prisoner photos? WILL you look at the rest?

if your answer(s) are/were YES, WHAT prohibits you from looking at the retaliation?

10. sure you may ask and no i didn't
A few prisoner photos were unavoidable because they were on TV when I happened to walk into the room or I clicked by accident but I have actually been pretty good at avoiding them. I realize it's important to have a record of what is being done on both sides, especially a visual record, but I also know my strengths and weaknesses. Some things I just don't need to see for my own mental health. In those cases, I will have to trust to stronger folks.

4. I'll watch them
It should all be watched just as all death penalties that are carried out should be televised.
we don't need reality TV..we need reality ON TV...maybe then people will fucking think instead of letting a bunch of Talibornagain robber barons do it for them.

It needs to be shoved up their face or their ass...wherever their head is located..that's where it needs to be shoved.

23. The trouble is....
if it disturbed everyone as much as it does you or me, then you would be right.

I think of the pictures of the lynchings(in the US), though, and the mobs who reveled in it and were gleeful at the spectacle... rather like the young England woman in the torture pictures... I am afraid THAT is what we would get.

Not the anguish that we wish - but more of a horrible mob mentality.

I don't know the answer.

Nope. I didn't go see The Passion either.
Direct retaliation? Maybe, but more likely manipulation of events. It's a Holy War and there are no rules.

6. Oh, please
I can barely bring myself to look at the prison photos, but I do because there is honestly no way to convey them in words.

I can imagine, vividly, what someone being decapitated looks like and I don't want to see it. I don't need to see such a thing to know how fucking horrible it is, thank you. Anymore than I need to watch a videotape of a woman being gangraped to understand that particular horror.

7. More calls for obeying orders
You *need* to "get" that we aren't all the same.

Some of us KNOW without subjecting ourselves to pain we can't absorb.

The ones who *NEED* to see them are those who still aren't "getting it" about Bushwa.

It's this kind of ordering others around that make me feel hopeless that anything will every change.

11. Absolutely correct
We aren't the ones that need it rubbed in our faces, it's the apologists and Bush supporters that do.

8. I just can't watch it, Matcom.
The descriptions of that video is enough to fuel my already burning rage about the futility of the Iraq War. I can't watch an innocent man be murdered so brutally. I just can't do it. I'm emotionally drained from just hearing it described.

9. I watched Nick Berg's taped murder and I'm still shaking an hour later...
Edited on Tue May-11-04 07:57 PM by tnlefty
I don't watch violent movies. I was numb and couldn't feel anything for a few minutes and then I felt like I was going to vomit. Next I felt cold and overwhelmingly sad. The same feeling that I had/have when viewing the pictures of those innocents killed and the torture pictures.

Revolted, sickened and sad.

Edited to add: The same feeling that I have when I've watched the videos from the Holocaust Museum, also.

16. I think that it would take a stronger "medicine"
Perhaps after the "get the kids' homework, showered and in bed" thing is done I'll settle for a drink though....especially since that's my only option anyway.

14. I am glad there
are some of you who can witness this for the rest of us. I can look at photos, they are heartbreaking but I just simply can not look at the videos. I wish I was braver about this but all I can think of are my two perfect, draft age sons. I can't do it. I respect you all and trust you totally to tell the story but I will not be watching videos of torture and murder.

I agree, it should be released and it does need to be seen by those who can handle it. Those of us who can't already are sick at heart and weeping.

I am ready and strong and thanks again for being the truth seekers and speakers for those of us who can't deal with this part.

15. I think we had better start making big posters of
the burned and blown-apart Iraqi children to pull out when some apologist - of ANY political stripe - brings up this beheading atrocity. I do not condone ANY illegal treatment of either US or Iraqi citizens, soldiers, whatever. But if they are going to use this atrocious killing of an American to justify their torture techniques, I think it is fair to remind the US of what WE have done to the most innocent and helpless of Iraqis.

I have not looked at the video, nor will I. I have tried to look at the photos of the Iraqi children, but can never get through more than a few, no matter how I try to remind myself that I have a moral obligation to face what we have done and are doing. I do not need that video to strengthen my opposition to this lawless administration or my committment to doing every thing I can to defeat it. And THEN it will be time to work on Kerry and the Dems to do something about this culture within the Intellegence communities that torture and murder are legitimate tactics. A culture that goes much further back and through administrations of both parties.

17. I look because it is my responsibility to bear witness.
Edited on Tue May-11-04 07:52 PM by politicat
I cannot go to the ME like Rachel Corrie did. I am not a journalist, I have no skills that would make me useful in the rebuilding that we must accomplish.

All I can do is bear witness. All I can do is unwillingly carry the images of atrocity committed in the name of my country and remember and remember that I do not work to change the future for myself, but for those who cannot do anything.

I am a human Kaddish.

I, too, weep.

18. Trouble finding it, trouble with links, saw the horror, and disseminated
"American" or "America" several times by the shuffling paper guy and watched the macho jock-movements by the guy on the right as well as the westernized stance of the group as a whole. Really odd..the shit stinks...... God grant the young man peace.

Because then they won't find it so easy to support wars.
