US Army Capt Hugh Thompson, hero of My Lai, on 60-Min. in about 10 minutes
Hugh Thompson was the UH-1 "Huey" pilot who landed on the dike near My Lai-4 and stopped the massacre by directing his door-gunner to shoot any of Calley's platoon members that continued to kill Vietnamese civilians. Again, coming up soon. More comments later.

2. Isn't it funny....
how people who actually stand for the principles the rightwing like to espouse are villified by these very same extremists as being un-American while their good deeds are happening and then later are finally embraced by these psychos.

3. I cannot comment. I am crying too hard. Choking, sobbing ...
Edited on Sun May-09-04 06:56 PM by DemoTex
I haven't cried like this since April 1975. I'll compose myself and be back later. But know this- fucking KNOW THIS - the My Lai cover-up that persecuted whistle-blower Hugh Thompson was facilitated by Major Colin Powell. Fuck these criminal assholes. Just fuck them!

21. Miz t. and I just sat there and blubbered.
I can't remember when I have been so touched, angry, and frustrated.
I wonder if there's any chance of getting him on the Kerry team?

4. Incredible story.
A friend who was a Warrant Officer and chopper pilot told me that story. I was in the Army stateside, and he had just returned from 'Nam. I never realized the multitude of problems the man faced just for doing the right thing.

5. It's hard to relive this.

Also, the story about the Saudi's torture of the British ex-patriots to get a confession out of them about a bombing was gut-wrenching.

11. Indeed they do.
That's what Hugh Thompson has been fighting all these years. Again, I cannot convey how much I admire this man.

10. My personal thanks to Thompson, Colburn, and Andreotta (RIP, Glen)
As an Army aviator (who flew Navy aircraft in RVN) these guys make me proud. Like my mama says, they were raised right. I have followed this story for years and years. I have been an admirer of Hugh Thompson, Larry Colburn, and Glen Andreotta for years and years. In a split second, Thompson made the correct decision. His crew stood behind him. Obviously, some Vietnamese civilians were saved. Obviously, the investigation of this war crime was enhanced by the testimony of Thompson and Colburn (Andreotta was KIA a few weeks after the 3/16/68 My Lai-4 massacre.

This was the story that painted my Army with a very black brush. It was covered up and, never forget, Maj. Colin Powell was in on that cover-up. It was, in my opinion, much worse than the Abu Ghraib prison scandal (after all it was a massacre). But it was covered-up very successfully for almost one full year. Seymour Hersch exposed the My Lai massacre. Won a Pulitzer. Now he is back with Abu Ghraib. Check six, Seymour. Check six.

Edited on Sun May-09-04 09:22 PM by amen1234
same criminals....colin powell, poindexter, kissinger, et al...

while we look for heros...and the old heros of the past....woodward, hersch, Thompson, Colburn, and Andreotta, et al...are stepping up to the plate....and we cheer today's NEW heros that are STANDING UP and exposing bushies' CRIMES...low-level people taking down the DoD Secretary....go go go...honest Americans STAND UP and take back America....

with AWOL bush* trashing JOHN KERRY, Vietnam war-hero and war-protestor with $60 million dollars of TV ads...and getting nowhere....

the rumsfeld testimony was under oath, and in many ways, it was exhilerating that the Democrats are not going to let bush* POW -sex-torture snuff operation get blamed on low-level people, under orders from the TOP....this time, it's starting off to look very different....mcCain looked really pissed at rummy, so did the rethug senator from maine....there may be more too....it only takes a few....everyone knows about the Calley scandal...stuffing the whole mess onto a low-level guy, who took commands from Americal headquarters, second-in-command and coverup chief colin powell...blood on their hands...

and since real officers HATE war-criminal rummy...they are already eating him alive with 'leaks'.....

and America is screaming for their pornographic warnography....

this could be the end of 'God sent me to kill Iraqis' bush* and his whole cabal...the TV horror is too gruesome...with thousands more photos, Videos and AUDIO torture coming to America's living room TV's soon....

may the GOOD GUYS WIN ! and we TAKE BACK AMERICA....

everybody STAND UP and volunteer to help....go KERRY....

The people should never forget Colin Powell and the role he played in the My Lai massacre and also his role in the Iran/Conta scam.

Seymour Hersch is indeed a true countryman.

15. maybe this will help bury the 'powell myth'
powell has been a soul-less errand boy his whole career.

his sickening performance at the UN last year wasn't an aberation, it was indicative of what he has done his entire life.

and apparently has been for over a 1/4 of a decade. I've never heard of him. I've only heard reports of the massacre. Does anyone have a link describing his involvement related ot My Lai that goes into detail?
