War Crime Trials and Swift, Severe Penalties are Required
To rescue american standing in the world.

Otherwise it will be extremely ugly when we are down and asking for mercy.

Arrogance and hubris got us in this mess, we must deal with it honorably and humbly.

2. Scapegoats don't count...
Courts martial won't get to the root of this.

War crime trials are needed. The masterminds of this bogus holocaust must face the music for their evil deeds.

4. I fear all we will get is these upcoming court martials
but an international war crime tribunal is needed, yes

3. It'll take more than that
to rescue American standing in the world (whatever that was anyway). As far as I'm concerned these are clear breaches of the Geneva convention and should be tried accordingly in an international court. Only that will help demonstrate that the US government is prepared to play fair. As it is, it's one rule for them and different rules for everyone else and that's no good.

That is the standing to which I refer.

6. Who is going to do this???
Do you really think that the next administraton is going to turn over the members of this one to The Hague for disposition? I would like to think so as well, but you realistically must know that it won't happen...he has already said that he will "stay the course" in Iraq and that he supports this "war on terror" (just that he'd fight it smarter). I don't think that it will ever happen, no matter who is elected.

7. They can add insult to injury,
and THAT wouldn't surprise me. But if they did something like that, America would be a pariah in the civilized world.

11. Sadly, we are...
...I have no desire to travel overseas anymore. I would be ashamed of what I represent. A pity, really, but I have no desire to be an ambassador of "this." And the fact that there are people, even on this board, who defend this war and want to perpetuate it, is unfathonable to me.

12. Foreign travel
is part of the collateral damage of this catastrophe. There are many tangential ramifications yet to visit their sufferings on the American people.

I truly grieve, for mine and yours.

9. The "American Standing" is probably unsalvageable, but what
you are calling for is the minimum of what needs to be done to try and show the world the U.S. is not a totally ruthless dictatorship and sham democracy.

The "American Standing" was probably lost in the propaganda runup to the Iraq Invasion. Whether this is irrevocable remains to be seen. November election results will have a lot to say about this.

13. I sincerely don't think the Muslim world will care. . .
about the court marshalls, or "whosoever" resigns. The ugliest aspect of our sex & violence obssessed culture has been exposed. Porn is the biggest money making industry in this country, and from what I hear, a percentage of it is S&M. Anyone who thinks that the sub human abuse of these prisoners is not a direct result of that industry is sorely mistaken.

Most Muslim's believe that sex and bodies are sacred.
We've mocked them horrifically, and irredeemably.

I had thought that these attrocious abuses were a direct repercusion of the suspension of the Geneva conventions at Gitmo. Then I heard Dennis Kucinich talk of *'s "us versus them", and "axis of evil" rhetoric enabling this behavior and I felt that he was right.

We're taking a huge fall here. Rightly so, though it saddens me tremendously as we were "once a great nation."

If * remains in power, we will truly be even more globally reviled.

14. It Won't Happen
Dimbo, Rummy and Dick have instructed Halliburton to pull the non-military electronic communication in the Iraqi Theatre in a vain effort to keep any more bad news from getting out: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1560664

It will never work because the Iraqi people also see what's going on, listen to an uncensored Rush through Armed Forces Radio Network and get PO'd enough to talk to journalists who listen.

Also, the first rotation of troops and Guardsmen have come home and are talking to their families about their experiences to family and friends as I type this.

Couple that with the approximately 2700 world-wide Iraqi Abuse stories I Googled last night and it seems that Dimbo is trying to control the US media in a "close the barn door after the horse has escaped" situation.

I agree....for Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. IMPEACH BUSH! The Democrats should be calling for impeachment. If a blow job warrants impeachment, THIS does..... Along with an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs!
