I can't sleep -- the recent developments in Iraq weighs heavily on my mind
The RW is trying to deflect blame and criticism of the * administration in this fiasco.

My thinking is -- this would NEVER have happened if we didn't invade them in the first place.

The RW is still trying to play that "the war was justified" card.

I understand Bush talks to God.

He should have listened.

I'm quite sure God told this idiot from the outset to leave that country the hell alone.

* is reaping what he sowed.

EVERYBODY told him to leave that fucking defenseless country alone.

This ton of bricks falling on him is vengence.

From God. From the "focus groups". From the Iraqis. From the world.

Even his own Daddy.

His Daddy knew better than to try to invade and occupy that country.

How much older will this asshole get before he starts listening to his Daddy? I can see him brushing off the rest of us. But he needs to, for once in his life, listen to his Daddy.

You are dead on exact.

I'm upset, too. I just watched a video linked by another poster. It's the Marines killing a wounded, defenseless Iraqi, and then whooping and celebrating. The guy was writhing on the ground, posing no threat, and they murdered him.

3. Cat, have you read this article in today's (Sunday's) Washington Post?
Edited on Sun May-09-04 03:15 AM by VolcanoJen
They're losing the Army, Catwoman. The f'in UNITED STATES ARMY is turning against them.

We are at the beginning of the end. It's hard news to read for those who love-love-love this war, but the best of news for those of us who want Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz gone, Bush unelected, and this horrific war to end. Where will the neocons turn, after Army officers have abandoned them?

It's an excellent article, and when you're finished, maybe you'll be able to sleep.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A11227-2004May8.html

Dissension Grows In Senior Ranks On War Strategy
U.S. May Be Winning Battles in Iraq But Losing the War, Some Officers Say

Excerpt:

Inside and outside the armed forces, experts generally argue that the U.S. military should remain there but should change its approach. Some argue for more troops, others for less, but they generally agree on revising the stated U.S. goals to make them less ambitious. They are worried by evidence that the United States is losing ground with the Iraqi public.

Some officers say the place to begin restructuring U.S. policy is by ousting Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, whom they see as responsible for a series of strategic and tactical blunders over the past year. Several of those interviewed said a profound anger is building within the Army at Rumsfeld and those around him.

A senior general at the Pentagon said he believes the United States is already on the road to defeat. "It is doubtful we can go on much longer like this," he said. "The American people may not stand for it -- and they should not."

<snip>

Like several other officers interviewed for this report, this general spoke only on the condition that his name not be used. One reason for this is that some of these officers deal frequently with the senior Pentagon civilian officials they are criticizing, and some remain dependent on top officials to approve their current efforts and future promotions. Also, some say they believe that Rumsfeld and other top civilians punish public dissent. Senior officers frequently cite what they believe was the vindictive treatment of then-Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric K. Shinseki after he said early in 2003 that the administration was underestimating the number of U.S. troops that would be required to occupy postwar Iraq.

11. They lost the army a while ago
what is significant is that they are going public, that is what is
significant. This is UNPRECEDENTED in the history of the service.

Thought you would like to know. Things are TOO DAMN SERIOUS for them to risk careers and all of that by GOING PUBLIC...

Are you getting the feeling that those who NEVER go public are? Army, the IRCR... I could go on

14. Exactly. This is unprecedented in the modern-day Army.
These guys could absolutely lose their careers for coming forward. Only a few allowed their names, and that says so very, very much.

It sure is one fucked-up world when the Army becomes the voice of reason. It's clear from this article that senior officers want Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Myers gone... and, Bush, I imagine.

This, on the day that Cheney defends Rumsfeld, telling us to "get off his back," and that he is "the best Secretary of Defense the country has ever had."

The Army and the White House are not on the same page. This is Bush's worst nightmare.

Edited on Sun May-09-04 03:17 AM by devrc243
4th espisode of "24" tonight (rented it 'cause everyone said how good it was, now I see it is) and the President made reference to one of his advisors--after she tried to hide something from him--his quote: " don't you know as the President I will find out, so don't try to hide anything from me again," wow, how true.

Bush knew. He's always known...about anything gone awry. He's plays "dumb" to help him with his base, but even they know the ship is in serious trouble.

It's his JOB to KNOW what goes on. To imply he got the info "off the news" is not only incompetent, but just plain stupid. I want the leader of my "free" nation to protect me and if he had to get his "info" off the news, then he needs to go.

We here at DU do a better job of getting the info out than these morons.

If he doesn't even know what's going on with our won military, then how can we trust him to know what is going with the terroists who want to blow the USA up? Lame ...

10. Same here. This is weighing heavily on my mind too.
How can you find sanity when insanity has taken hold?

I am very worried about what revenge will be inflicted upon us here in the states. If the terrorist didn't have an excuse before, they have found one now.

I tell myself I'll shake this worry because right now I'm still in shock over all this, but how can I knowing there is more out there that will come to light?

When you put all of the horrible events and issues that Bush* has given us, it becomes almost too much to bear.

I think Kerry is a very brave man to be willing to put himself in the position of possibly being our next president. He will face the evil of the right sabotaging him every which way; all the while there is the battle to repair our civil liberties, the economy, jobs, environment, domestic and international relationships, and the American induced cancer in Iraq, and God knows what else - he has to one brave soul.

13. Me too!
I have always known that * was a lowlife POS. He and his cronies are causing Satan to add another circle to hell.

But what gets me the most, what keeps me awake, are my friends, family and neighbors, who think this is somehow JUSTIFIED! That it's all OK because someone flew planes into someones building, and no one has apologized, and they killed some mercenaries, and it's just some underwear on some heads. I have a tough time not wanting them to rot in hell as well. I do not want to hate my family and neighbors, but I, deep down, wish for this horrible shit to be visited upon them. See how they like it. I makes me want to scream. But instead, I just seethe. I want to smack some sense into them, since no amount of smacking will learn * and his scumbag buddies.

Now I know why GI's returning from Vietnam were spat upon and called "baby killers". The behavior of which John Kerry spoke in 1970 pales by comparison to the inhumanity taking place now by a group of weekend warrior gestapo wannabees. Unless the moral men and women in the armed forces begin to frag or slit the throats of the scumbags perpetrating these atrocities, I will be there to spit upon all of them. I did not support this war, but I like to think that I support our troops. But, in light of these accusations, they can all rot in that desert.

Sorry to be so long winded, but DU is the only place I have to express my feelings about this shit.

I hope you feel better, CatWoman. You are not alone.

Keep the faith

15. yikes
Chill out. As disgusting as the acts of these people are, wishing the same on them is bringing yourself down to their level. How can you condemn someone for bringing horror onto people they believe have committed atrocities against them while at the same time wishing the same atrocities upon those you condemn?

17. Some points to make
Cognitive disonance is JUST hitting the people of this country

Things are going to get far worts,

It may take PUBLIC War Crimes Tribunals to make many wake up as to what was done, a la Nuremberg

Oh and as to the troops... those six troopers are the way to justify this....

This was fully a failure of leadership at the highest levels, startign with Rummy, Wolfie, Feith, Myers, the Service Chiefs, Smith, Abizaid Sanches... get the picture?

That said, DO NOT allow yourself to Mai Lai the army, as the army is beign destroyed by BushCo and you know what is worst, they DO NOT GIVE A FLYING RATS ASS...

They could not have done any more damage to the country if htey were enemy combatants.

When this is over, NOBODY will admit to be a Bush Republican, I predict, just like there were no Nazis after the fall of Nazi Germany, and before you say it... no they are not Nazis... they are getting close, but they are NOT NAZIS, just Fascists...

Oh and yes we understand your need to rage and your inabilty to sleep... very much so

20. Don't spit.
You won't know which soldiers did their duty without selling their souls and which shamed themselves.

If someone who's been there brags about inhumane behavior, show your disgust by walking away. It's called "cutting" someone. Act as if they don't deserve your attention or response. Or say what you think. Spitting is in the same family of behavior as what the abusers did (obviously, it's on the milder end).

No Vietnam-era GIs I know were spat upon, although a couple of DUers say that it happened to them. There is a book (sorry, don't remember the title) that claims no documented instances of this happened.

so far, we're the ones being 'reaped' (and of course, the soldiers are--again--going to pay the most.

I responded to his mess by writing the darkest parody I've ever attempted. ("Thanks for the Sodomy") it's still floating around.

22. this is a direct result of the right's attitudes
it's more than just invading Iraq, CW.

It's the entire attitude. Look at the right wingers going on about frat stunts. They wouldn't be saying that if Iraqis had done this to US soldiers.

Their entire mentality is reinforced by having Bush in the white house. This torture is a direct reflection of Bush's reign. Every single aspect of the Bush regime's behavior, from the 2000 election onward, is in line with the pictures that we are seeing.

Remember Florida in 2000? The bullying fat white guy republican mobs? The removal of blacks' names from voter rolls? The bullying that started the moment they took over the white house? The continued bullying against the world, against anyone, especially republicans, who dare to speak against them?

The Iraq torture scenes are yet another example of how Bush sees the world, of how he treats the world.

So you're letting him off easy... and as for Daddy, I think his advice would be, "cover the tracks better" ...

The whole bunch are corrupt, immoral sleazebags! :grr:
