Two quotes for your reflection...

"The best political weapon is the weapon of terror. Cruelty commands respect. Men may hate us. But, we don't ask for their love; only for their fear."
- Heinrich Himler.

"There is a point at which the law becomes immoral and unethical. That point is reached when it becomes a cloak for the cowardice that dares not stand up against blatant violations of justice. A state that supresses all freedom of speech, and which by imposing the most terrible punishments, treats each and every attempt at criticism, however morally justified, and every suggestion for improvement as plotting to high treason, is a state that breaks an unwritten law."
- Kurt Huber , killed by the Nazis in 1943.

2. Every government could have those quotes applied to it...

not just the US.

It's a a matter of degree of what the citizens will tolerate from their representatives.

3. I know it's strange almost sick but I knew who Himmler was but
I had no idea about Huber. A quick search produced an excellent short biography of a man who seemed to know no fear.

Excellent quote.

4. I had heard the same quote
but I couldn't put a name to it, until now. I too made a Google-search on Kurt Huber, and was also impressed. Here's one site: http://www.jlrweb.com/whiterose/huber.html THANKS.

5. Sounds like the Bush administration & repubs
As I'm sure you know, even republican senators and congressmen have expressed that criticizing the war effort is dangerous to our troops. How fucking stupid can they be to imply Americans are not supposed to speak out if they believe a war is unjust?

Hell, they're not stupid; they're fucking evil!
