Poll question: Will W ever be prosecuted for war crimes?
If yes, what would it take for that to happen?

1. The leaders who allowed this must not go unpunished.

2. poll on wishes or harsh reality?
I don't know how to respond, as it is obvious Bush should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but he led the US opt out of the International Court (on grounds he didn't want any US soldiers held responsible for wartime activities), Seems unnaturally precient for a dolt like W.

4. It will never happen...
Kerry and the new administration will look for unity and putting the past behind us. At least that's what I think will happen, not what should happen.

5. He can be indicted by the ICC and if he travels to any country...
that has signed on to it,other than the ones that bush bought off, that country can extradite him to the Hague! Hmmmm, wonder if he will finally visit Canada, if so, hopefully AFTER the indictment is handed down!

17. Interesting question, there is no question that the US is in contravention
of the Geneva Conventions but I don't know what penalties ensue because of that. Here is the ICC's jurisdiction:

The ICC will prosecute individuals accused of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, all defined in the court's treaty. The ICC will help ensure that these serious crimes, which have long been recognized by the international community, no longer go unpunished because of the unwillingness or inability of individual countries to prosecute them.

6. Whoever the next pres is either Kerry in Nov ,very unlikely, or
Jeb in 2008 will pardon the shrub and you can bet your ass he has already signed the pardons for his entire cabala. Justice if it ever comes will have to be administered by other than the law. They are above the law.

9. No, but his karma will katch up with him otherwise.
Once the mantle of power will be stripped away, it will be cold dark and scary inside that twisted mind. All the booze and drugs in the world won't make it go away.

10. We need to start the impeachment proceedings now!
Edited on Sat May-08-04 08:37 PM by RC
Tie this administration up in law suits, legal BS, Congressional hearings, anything so bu$h cannot legally pardon anyone. The war criminals need to be sharing cells in Leavenworth for the next 20 or so years.

An example needs to be set or they will be back again and again and again...

21. I'm with you
I can't accept that "it can't happen". If we find any kind of reason in this country by November I'm gonna work my ass off to help "make it happen".

15. I'd love to say that he would...
...but unfortunately there are too many hacks on both sides of the aisle...he'll be allowed to slip away quietly and live the rest of his days in Texas.

Never going to happen.
He isn't going on trial, we'd do well enough just to get him out of office in November.

16. by whom? who is going to prosecute him? America?
Is America going to extradict him to the Hague? We were told to "get over" a stolen election.. America is where the Patriot Act is law. America is where far too many people believe a connection between Iraq and September 11.

Just where in America will there be enough outrage and shame that Bush Inc is hauled before a court of law?

I know how we feel here at DU. I know how a great many others feel that aren't a part of the DU community...but I don't know that the whole of America has what it takes, in terms of integrity and honor, to do the right thing.

Iraq was/is an illegal invasion...which should have been enough in and of itself to warrant war crime charges against the Bush administration.

If what is happening now, coupled with the illegality of the invasion, can't bring war crime charges against Bush...then I shudder to ask just what has to happen for charges to be brought.

But at the moment, I don't tend to believe America will act as it should.

Maybe I'm just a cynic...

18. not likely
I don't think that any incoming president would want to set a precedent that would allow him to be tried.

In spite of everything however you cannot resign from the human race. B* may have 'proclaimed' the the US will not abide by various conventions but that does not mean his 'proclamation' has any meaning.

Did congress validate the with drawl from some of the conventions???

20. Kerry, when elected, will have to do the work.
Bush* certainly won't. He's part of the problem, that much is clearly known.

Kery probably won't, he wanted the Iraq war.

I fear the only repercussions he'll face will be that of his own Karma.
Perhaps in his next life, he'll be chief of the dung-beetles.
