question about firing Rumsfeld
My question is: in your opinion, what would be more of a liability to the Bush regime in the end? Keeping Rummy or firing him?

I have about as much sympathy for Rumsfeld as anyone else here, but I don't think he's any more evil than the rest of the neocons, and part of me is worried that if he becomes the scapegoat, he'll deflect blame and moral responsibility from the rest of the crew.

I'm not sure whether I necessarily want to see Rumsfeld fired before the elections. I want to see BushCo do whatever turns out to be the most harmful to the Bush administration, whether that means firing Rumsfeld or keeping him. Rumsfeld deserves to be fired, but I'm willing to wait until November for that if it increases the chances of his accomplices being fired as well.

Thoughts?

1. If he leaves, Bush will play both sides of the street
1. He fired him for the atrocities in Iraq

2. He was forced out of office by the librulls because it's an election year

You'll get one story or the other depending on the audience.

BTW, wanna bet if it happens, Rummy will end up on the board at Halliburton? :)

2. I've already written
my congressman to institute impeachment proceedings against one and all then remand them to the Hague to be tried for war crimes.

13. I have done the same...
and we ALL should do this. We have to make it known that we're not all just going to sit back and allow this administration to continue with all that is going on and be unpunished.

3. The question should be
who will the GOP get to run in Bush's place once he's run out of town?

5. Good question
If Rummy neither resigns nor fired by Bush, there is another liability for Bush to deal with. Failure to "clean house" after these atrocities, totally negates Bush*'s claim to be a "strong leader".

Kerry can say with 100% certainty that if something so awful had happened on his watch he would have S***canned the whole sorry lot of them. Wolfie, Rummy, Meyers, Smith...... their testicles would ALL BE swinging from the rear-view mirror.

6. I like the idea of
having him around for another 7-14 days, to expose the bush administration as being morally incapable of admitting ANY errors. At this point, the only people who are speaking well of the creep are those republicans who will never change their minds. The middle-of-the-road and "undecided" voters are clearly seeing a lack of judgement and an inability to be objective -- at best -- and are going to be turning against this administration in a big way by July. We are going to win the White House, folks. But we simply can NOT stop there. We need to keep building upon the foundation, and change the whole damned system, from the town hall to the county supervisors, from the school boards to the state senates.

7. Josh Marshall believes that it'd be to our advantage for Rummy to go.
Edited on Sat May-08-04 05:56 PM by ClassWarrior
Once he's gone, the Senate has to hold confirmation hearings for his replacement, and that would bring up all sorts of questions uncomfortable for the administration.

I agree with the poster said that the best situation would be the impeachment of Rummy.

Then his bosses.

9. I hope the Idiot King doesn't realize just how
"radioactive Rummy" has become worldwide....The neo-cons usually are oblivious to what the people think and they could care less....Just maybe they will rationalize this ignore all this and continue on their " Mission from God".. If they do, Bush will be much easier to defeat in November..... I actually think that we have enough ammunition to " Blow Up The little Pukes Pipe Dreams" So that in November we can get the criminals out of our face for GOOD.....

10. Rumsfeld is part of the PNAC.
It was he and the others who drew up this Middle East Pax Americana scheme. It is their plan to rule the world and all its resources. Oil is only part of it. Dumbya is just a tool. Rummy is dangerous as is Perle, Wolfowitz and Abrams, also PNACers. If they are allowed to get anymore secretive and powerful, things like these will happen all over the world and no one will know about them. He was upset that the abuse got leaked. He said it himself that it was top secret and leaked illegally. That seems to be his genuine remorse, the rest of the apologies are empty words.

15. You are right about Rummy being dangerous and angry
He was like a cornered animal yesterday in the hearings....When Senator Clinton was questioning him, I noticed he held up his hand to his face so he would not have to look at her... He is super mad at all of us and blames the whole incident on the pictures and Sy Hersh's New Yorker Article which he said is top secret, and in his criminal mind it is.....What is he nutz....he misses the point Big Time that the Torture is what is Wrong... Not the pictures and articles ... they just conveyed the truth to us and Rummy doesn't like truth at all....We are not IMPORTANT OR GOOD ENOUGH FOR TRUTH.....ARROGANT BAST--D.......!

14. devil's advocate says keep rummy (would be best for us) because:
1. they would delay the confirmation hearings to suit their "reselection" timing
2. keep replaying the clip of rummy's testimony that says that b* made the decision to forego Geneva Conventions
3. remind the sheeple of how b*co NEVER pay for even admitted mistakes
4. show the sheeple how PNAC'ers only punish lowly others
5. if there is one whistleblower Darby, let rummy see and hear hundreds more -- rummy WILL LOSE HIS COOL -- replay those hearings of yesterday
6. let the games begin with defense lawyers of these lowly mp's get info out to the public about the whole chain of "command and control" stench
7. let rummy (always tied to dummy and snaky) be the poster child of
that "torture" word where he did "not want to go" (with clip, of course)

IN OTHER WORDS ... fish stinks from the head down ... everywhere

18. Either way, it's bad for them...
A. Keep him around, it keeps the bloodthirsty arrogance center stage.

B. Let him go, it shows weakness and breaking of ranks.

19. BTW, what inspired me to post this
was MoveOn's latest mailing encouraging everyone to demand Rummy's resignation.

I haven't signed the petition they're circulating yet, because I want to figure out whether it would hurt the Chimperor more to fire Rummy immediately or keep him until November.
