Guess what day of the week the news release of prisoner abuse went out
On a Friday, but of course. Rummy had said everybody knew about it. I never had. Even Congress hadn't. That's a "throrough and professional manner?" These jerks made every attempt to stifle the information. Dayton was right. This is suppression.

Rummy has to go.

I'm guessing it was 5:00 p.m. Gotta hand it to Rummy--he's slick!

5. I read...
The Taguba or whatever report was actually the third investigation, no? I may be wrong about that.

10. McCain knows he has to go. He's just trying to appear fair
and let the system play itself out so there's no RW bitching to him when all is said and done.

Rummy is marking time, I'm sure of it.

4. Why would they release it on a Friday?
Is this to minimize the impact? From the bombshell that it already is.

It seems like this would be worse. This will give the American public the entire weekend to talk about it over the dinner table and get good & pissed about 'Reliable Rummy' and 'Benevolent Bush'.

I could be wrong/

Release negative press items on weekends and holidays so that the big guns in media will not be working. Also, Friday isn't a big night for news - people are busy doing other things.

Read "Worse than Watergate" this tactic is mentioned in that book.

6. So because it was announced to the whole world
In a one paragraph statement, released on a Friday, everybody is expected to know all about it?

However, despite reports and even pictures from numerous sources, Rummie didn't have time to read any of it and has only really paid attention to the matter in the last week? Heck, he only got around to looking at the pictures on Thursday night.

All I can say to Rummie, is that the rest of the world has busy lives too. And most people don't sit around eagerly waiting to read every press release from the DOD. At the least, you should have done a little bit more to let the pResident and Congress know what was going on and not expect them to have pick it up off the Friday afternoon news dump.

7. I checked the NYT archives...
and they had a story about this investigation in the late edition on January 17th. Then Abu Ghraib wasn't even mentioned by them until about a month later. Why?

here's the link. not much detail, you have to purchase the story itself...

8. Rummy is not the fucking problem. Your buying into Rove's rhetoric.
Everyone takes the blame, everyone else apologizes, but not the King, the Messiah (as many people want to believe, George truly is the second coming)

If this were under Clinton the republicans would go right to the top and say it Clinton's Sec of Defense, Clinton has to take responsibility.

THE GOAL IS NEVER EVER HAVE BUSH ADMIT HE MADE A MISTAKE...ALWAYS BLAME IT ON SOMEONE ELSE---OR SOMEONE ELSE TAKE THE BLAME...AS LONG THE KING NEVER ADMITS TO ANY WRONG DOING, HE STAY INFALLIBLE IN PEOPLES MINDS AND WILL BE ELECTED AND CAN PARDON AND PROTECT EVERYONE WHO REMAINED LOYAL. BUT THE KING MUST NEVER APOLOGIZE.

IF THE KING EVER ADMITTED HE WAS WRONG ABOUT THE TINIEST THING ('MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" IRAQ WAR, 9-11, ETC. ETC.) THEN EVEN HIS SUPPORTERS WOULD QUESTION HIM AND HE'S DONE FOR, IT'S OVER AND THE KINGDOM WOULD CRUMBLE QUICKLY...ROVE KNOWS THIS AND THAT'S WHY YOU'LL NEVER EVER HEAR BUSH APOLOGIZE ABOUT ANYTHING. GOD'S CHOSEN ONE DOESN'T MAKE MISTAKES!!!!!

21. Remember those 8 impeachment articles Rangel has at-the-ready for Rummy?
I think Rangel's got another set stashed aside, ready for Bush. These guys are finished.

11. I wonder if any
journalists have worked this story within the US and have been "advised" to keep quiet? Hard to believe somebody didn't pick up on this, as well hidden as it was. (press release)

14. Their suppression strategy has backfired
because nobody knew about the prior announcement (I didn't), so it postponed the fire storm that is taking place now, and now they're five months closer to 11/2/04.

18. That's what's so "Laurel and Hardy" about this administration
They are their own worst enemy. That's why I think Rummy is really quite stupid. He's an astute liar, but he has no common sense.

I picked this up in an archive of Stripes:

Rumsfeld submits report calling for sweeping changes in military
European edition, Tuesday, April 15, 2003

Rumsfeld submitted his plan at a time when the Pentagon high command is busy with the Iraq war, the nation is preoccupied with that conflict and Congress has gone out of town for a two-week spring recess.

http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=&article=14218&archive=true

Remember when Michael Powell started the process to eliminate the last remnants of rules preventing further consolidation of the FCC? Two days after 9-11.
