Iraq weapons 'not likely to be found'

Weapons of mass destruction are no longer likely to turn up in Iraq, the BBC has learned.

BBC political editor Andrew Marr says very senior figures "right at the top of Whitehall" no longer believe the weapons are likely to be found.

The development "is of important political significance", he adds.

1. Really, gentlemen?

"We are not saying that weapons of mass destruction never existed or that the government invented them or made them up.
"Indeed, a very senior source I have spoken to on this was absolutely sure when British troops went into action in Iraq they would face chemical and possibly, biological weapons.
"But as time has gone on, those weapons don't seem to be there and the best explanation going around at the moment is that some time shortly before the war Saddam Hussein destroyed them or hid them beyond discovery."

So, again they want us to believe that with his regime and his nation's sovereignty at stake, Saddam Hussein, a man with no conscience to stop him from using them, put the weapons that were last best hope out of his own reach.

Really?

I don't believe it.

2. That's the illogical leap they are making

Exactly. It is hard to believe that Sadaam would spend all that time and energy developing WMD's...And then when he is about to be invaded say "Well gee, they're bgoing to attack me. I'd better get rid of my weapons now."

This whole episode is getting surrealistic.

The same people doubted we'd win the Revolutionary War, too.

REALLY? Wow, that's astonishing. How do they keep their skin so silky smooth and ageless?
