Saying Sorry and Post-Presidency Bush As Marriage Counselor
Edited on Fri May-07-04 07:59 PM by taquinas101
One thing that I don't understand is why Bush refused to apologize during the interviews on Wednesday and wait until inevitable backlash this past two days to say “sorry.” What were his political advisors telling him; that lecturing Iraqis as to what they “must understand” would assuage their humiliation and anger?

This got me to thinking about applying Bush's approach to apologizing in other contexts. Perhaps, after his presidency, Bush can earn some bucks as a marriage counselor:

BUSH THE MARRIAGE COUNSELOR:

Husband: I was out at Vegas with some buddies, got drunk, then bet three large on the game with my buddies egging me on. Unfortunately, it did not pan out. Now, my wife has been asking why the mortgage check bounced. My buddies then hired a stripper and were busted by the Vice squad in their hotel room. Luckily, I had gone back to my room to get my wallet. What should I say to her?

Bush: Remind her of the progress you’ve made, that you are investigating the causes behind why you and your friends did what they did, and assure her of complete transparency with respect to your findings. Tell her that you are just as appalled as she is at the behavior of your friends.

Husband: What about my best friend Don Rusfell? The strippers were in his room, and they police found his stash. She’s going to demand that I stop hanging out with the guy.

Bush: Tell her that you told Don that you were angry with him, but that he has been a friend for a long time. Tell her that you still have confidence in Don.

Husband: Gee, should I apologize?

Bush: Heavens no. Just tell her that she must understand that relationships are not perfect. Tell her that women must understand the pressures that a guy in your position experiences when he is in Vegas. Don’t apologize, because apologizing indicates weakness, and wives respect husbands who are in a position of strength. After all, its not like you were the one who was arrested by the vice squad.

Husband: What if she gets mad and starts to yell at me?

Bush: Then tell her to bring it on!

Husband: But what if she threatens to leave me?

Bush: Well, in that case, you can always say sorry if it will calm her down.

Husband: Thanks Mr. Bush!

Bush: Just call me “W.”
