The story is over. Rummie was slapped on the wrist. OK?
Edited on Fri May-07-04 07:55 PM by TruthIsAll
OK, we have had our day of hearings. Its over now. Just like 9/11. Just like Plame. Just like Florida. Just like the BushCheney interview. Its time to move on and get back to work.

The polls say, 70% want Rummy to keep his job. The president obviously was shocked, shocked at the photographs. But he apologized. If he had known he would have taken decisive action to tell the American people. Just like he did in Aug. 2001.

He slapped Rummy on the wrist. He is out on the Bus today in Battleground country. He just had a $40 million fundraiser. The people love him. Just see them cheering.

And why not? He's the kind of guy you can go out and have a fear with.

This will no doubt bring him up in the polls. He has handled this like everything else - decisively. The media feels that way. It won't hurt him; it can only help.

June 30 looms. We'll transfer control to the Iraqis. Our mission is virtually accomplished. We have brought democracy to the region. We have won their hearts and minds. It wasn't that hard. Was it, Lynddie?

Three hundred thousand jobs were created last month. More manufacturing jobs at Wendy's. Have it your way.

The best resident we have ever had. He will win by an even bigger vote deficit next time.

1. Thank you democrats
It was real great of you all, except for three, to approve of
Negroponte, complicit in torture and murder, in the same week that you have railed against the US prison camps "abuse". Now you can all go back to feeding from the Corp. trough and then go back for your naps.

Next you can approve of the $25 Billion more for this obscene war that most of you voted for.

4. It doesn't matter: this story has legs that are miles long.
The press is feasting on this and will not let it stop. This is not national news this is truly international. This is strong shit.

5. I agree it will not go away.
Trust me in a few weeks we will all be wishing this would just go away. This is serious. Bush can't spin this any more than he can Faluja or the daily deaths in Iraq. The American media can't ignore it either while the whole world focuses on it the way our media does Kobe Bryant.

6. In a few weeks?
I am concerned 10 years from now we will still be wishing this would go away, trying to repair the damage done by this regime.

7. For once, I don't agree with you TIA.
These atrocities are more damaging than even you or I can imagine. We just had a dagger driven straight into the heart of the USA. And there's more to come. This weekend, apparently, they're going to show US troops raping a 12-year old girl in the Abu Ghraib jail.

Did you see the photos of the South Korean woman looking at the photos of the jail on the thread today? The look on her face said everything. The world is recoiling with disgust and revulsion.

This is the USA. The biggest, the baddest, and the most perverted (and hypocritical) of them all.

We haven't even BEGUN to feel the pain that's coming. And if this still fails to move the masses, then I'm leaving. I'll find myself some nice peaceful island in the Pacific where I can watch out society implode on itself cause I don't want to be a part of a culture that is that sick.

11. The Sleazy Sex Factor
The fact that it involves S&M porn-like images may well keep it in the public eye longer than more abstract stuff like Val Plame and 911 hearings.

Given the fact that even the KoverUp Kidz who went before the Senate Commitee today warned that lots more awful stuff was coming out -- I think this will perhaps hold peoples' attention longer.

Also -- be fair. Not all of those 300,000 manufacturing jobs are at Wendy's. A lot of them are also at Halliburton.

12. You've neglected the "Sex Factor"
Now if this were a hundred dead Iraqis, massacred at gunpoint, then yes we would just go back to ignoring it in a few days like the idiotic dipshits we are. However, the footage contains acts with sexual overtones and overt sexuality and sodomy and rape -- in other words, Sex Acts of the Kinkiest Sort. The Sex Thing is absolutely irresistable to our mass media, and will result in this particular scandal lasting a lot longer than others you've mentioned. This is exacerbated by the gradual release of footage: "what will Lynddie be up to in next week's installment? Tune in and find out!"

So this scandal is with us for a while. As another post mentions, in 10 years we may be wishing it would go away.

15. it is NOT often I would disagree with you TIA.... but
but the hardcore repukes were singing from the Rove hymnal today and got blindsided by Rummy's honesty (:wow:)

we heard the word "FEW" how many times from the repukes?

ie, oh, it was just 6 'bad apples'

Rummy actually took that lame, disgusting dodge away from them by saying there was MUCH MORE, MUCH WORSE.

now, I will agree that if the media gives the bushies a pass on their direct complicity in the atrocities (privatization to maximize war profiteering which IS the BIG story here under the surface and real outrage) then, you may be right.

but, the worst is yet to come. i'd hold MY bets for now....

16. So sick, ain't it, that Plame is still in fear of her life, the anthrax
killer is still at large, over 700 Americans dead in the war, a giant of a book was released, the 9/11 commission is ignored and can now go back to its whitewash, but kinky sex and women's underwear are getting headlines.

Oh, and the one who advised the Americans in Iraq HOW TO INTERROGATE IS NOW THE BOSS OF THE PRISON SYSTEM.
