If N Korea has nukes
Will they launch them pre-emptively against the US as they promised?

They were definitely callng Warmonger SHrubbypants*' bluff, so are they bluffing in return?

If they were not bluffing, then who do you think will get nuked first?

And if we are nuked, we will likely nuke in return. At that point, will other nations launch their nukes? If so, against the US or N. Korea? Or both?

1. They're bluffing
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 06:22 PM by FatbackSlim
I don't think they have the means to get a nuke to the U.S. (unless they send it via FedEx), but even if they do, they know it'd be the end of them. I do think they'd use them against our troops or against South Korea if we attacked, but I don't think it's likely we will do so.

On Edit: Absolutely love your handle.

2. NK doesn't have the ability to launch an ICBM at CONUS
"There is significant concern in the United States about the North Korean ballistic missile program and its ability to threaten US territory and allies. Since the mid-1980s, North Korea has--likely with significant foreign assistance--developed and produced a series of ballistic missiles of increasing range. It now deploys missiles with ranges able to reach all of South Korea and Japan, and is developing longer range missiles. It is also known to have transferred missile technology, as well as complete missiles, to other countries.

Assessments of North Korea's military capability often portray North Korea as possessing a long-range nuclear missile capability, or as able to rapidly acquire one. This is not true.
...

If one is concerned about near-term capabilities for missile delivery of lethal payloads to US territory, a more likely threat is short-range missiles launched from ships, which use simpler technology than long-range missiles and appear feasible for a country like North Korea. Such forward-based threats have a number of advantages compared with using intercontinental missiles, since they use short-range missiles, are likely to have higher accuracy, and do not pinpoint the country of origin. They could also not be engaged by the planned Ground-based Midcourse or Aegis-LEAP missile defenses, but would require large-scale deployment of short-range defenses around coastal cities."

This would mean that Star Wars Missile Defense is a taxpayer-funded boondoggle (yet again).

3. it wouldn't make sense...
they will wait until provoked militarily...

the real question is will anyone notice that they didn't 'start it'

we already declared are intentions of first-strike and of using nukes and the real question seems to me will we follow through with the nuke threats...

we already have on the first-strike intentions.

btw: no one knows what their true capabilities are but they can certainly reach out and strike japan.

:scared:

peace

6. The only strategic advantage N Korea has is using nukes as a deterrent
If they were ever to 1st strike they would gain nothing. By using the nukes as an "Ace" they can probably effectively stop the US from invading, but only so long as they don't use a nuke 1st.

8. And I never liked people who put the symbol of a racist state in
their postings. Are you insane ? Would you say the same thing if Tel Aviv was in range ? Well, I've got news for you - it IS in range, and what you wish upon others...

12. Bush* Is Trying to Provoke Them into Doing Exactly That
If * convinces NK that an attack is inevitable,
(which he is obviously trying to do)
then of course they will nuke California
(which is what * wants them to do!)

11. the US
should tell the North Koreans to have a nice life, then pick up all our troops in South Korea and go home. There is no reason for us to be in Korea at this time. Let KJI and all that region do what they want, and let them know that the only thing we have an issue with is supplying Al Qaeda with anything. If they do that, they get nuked.

America should withdraw our military and our aid from all over the world except in Afghanistan (and now Iraq, unfortunately) and start back on the road to a humble nation with a big ass stick..

15. Read this is you really want to be scared
If this article is true, then I would expect the gang that couldn't shoot straight, that is meeting down in Crawford, may be planning their next October Surprise for their Shock and Awe campaign. It's just the thing W needs to solve all his problems. Launch a secret pre-emptive strike against NK and start WWIII will certainly make everyone forget about a lousy US economy.
