Freedom Lost
Freedom Lost

The American people are being taken for a ride. The selling of
America is in full swing and has taken over our great country.
Soon most of the world will be under the complete control of
corporate interests, the quest for making large piles of money
the only goal. I am not talking about selling our natural
resources, which is happening at a rapid rate at bargain
basement prices. I’m addressing the freedom lost: we don’t
decide what products we buy, we don’t really decide anything.
Corporate PR and advertising hype and create the next fad.
We are being totally controlled by corporate manipulation. Big
money feeds us the news they want us to see and hear about,
pulling at our heartstrings at every turn to keep us
interested. Business decides the products that you buy; they
decide what will be on the shelf, not consumer choice.
Consumers have no choice–we can buy what is offered or do
without. Consumers are manipulated by advertising, product
placement, and the elimination of competition. Pepsi buys the
space and fills it with their product, then next week
Coca-Cola controls what is available and up front. Featured
products appear to have low prices but that is because they
have jacked up the regular price. Business isn’t fighting for
the lowest price. They seek the highest price, gouging for
preference.

America must wake up and see the freedoms lost and realize the
power that has been given over to corporations. Corporations
control everything, they have more power than individuals and
they can live forever if left unchecked. We must end the
victimizing of Americans. Our country has so much to offer the
world. We should reach out a helping hand to those in need and
share the wealth. We stand at the crossroads to the future and
we need to choice what direction humanity will go. Will it be
down a road of selfish, self-gratifying, conspicuous
consumption that destroys or gobbles up everything and
everyone in its path, or in a direction that is
life-sustaining, healthy, and uplifting for all?

May you be well, live well, work well; have courage, patience,
and compassion.

1. So In other words
without corporations there would be an infinite number of products? I mean how many brands of cola drink would there be, if only we didn't have corporations.

Actually I suspect that if there were no corporations there would be no cola at all.

Actually this argument is one i've heard before; it's one that lousy musicians use to explain why they aren't as wealthy as, say, the Rolling Stones.

I"m not saying corporations don't bear watching; they do. But we still have consumer choices. You can choose between Pepsi, Coke, Cherry Coke, Wild Cherry Pepsi, Vanilla Coke, Vanilla Pepsi, RC Cola, Generic Cola, Dr. Pepper, Mr. Pibb, as well as others I'm probably forgetting--and thats just in the vaguely coke like products.

You know what all this started from? A cocaine cocktail. Well, we had to shoot corporations in the knees to stop their intentional polluting of people's bodies.

2. We can make a choice
And we do it every day. I avoid Wal-Mart, and buy used clothes. I own a used car that gets high gas mileage. I don't pay attention to the news, because I know it is lies, so why bother? I do haunt websites where I can find the truth, and I share the information with others. I have a garden, and trade for things as I can. Though I live in the country, I know city folks who work at co-ops and recycle, etc, etc.

The important thing to do is to keep on keepin' on, and expose the rottenness by telling the TRUTH and walking your talk.

4. I think that corporations are a problem
Anytime an industry is controlled by only a few companies or one main leader and several smaller followers , there is a potential for company interests to dominate over consumer choice. Customers ultimately still have a choice but most will buy cheaper products especially if it is convient and hyped by the media. Larger corporations are always buying decent smaller corporations to further limit consumer choice. I do believe that there would still be soda and most other types of companies if there were not corporations. Since corporations are dominate though, the only way to have a chance at competing is by being a corporation.

5. America: By, of, and for the corporation
They have the money. They influence the politicians. They influence the population. The politicians give them carte blanche while restricting the freedom of the rest of us, the ordinary citizens.

It started in the 80s, but nobody has done a damn thing about it.

Everything is so skewed and based on greed that nobody's going to want to change back.

America IS dead. It died around 1980.

It was hijacked and renamed "Corporate America" by then.

Let's get used to it, there's nothing we can do.
