It's About Basic Human Decency and Respect
Edited on Thu May-06-04 06:10 PM by heidiho
I hang my head in shame to be called an American. I live in the "land of the free, home of the brave". There is NO excuse for
these pictures coming out of Iraq - NONE, nada, niente.

We may not like the Muslim religion and what the extremists stand for, but it is impossible to conquer a country without having at least some degree of respect for their religion.

Anyone just slightly familiar with the Muslim religion would know that this is a complete abomination of their tenets. For that reason alone, this should never ever have been allowed to happen. To allow strange women to see them naked and pose them into indecent poses is a flagrant violation of their faith.

Basic human decency tells us to treat everyone in the world with the dignity that all human beings deserve.

We have now shown the entire world what a democracy stands for. No wonder no one is lining up to sign up for it.

God or Allah help us all if Bush gets another four years!

1. I agree with your senitments
but would like to kindly explain to you that "Allah" is "God" in Arabic. There is but one God, whether you call Him God or Allah or Gott or Deos. Muslims believe in tolerance. As a Muslim American, I tolerate and respect all faiths, and strive to build bridges between them by education and explanation.

2. we have become, it seems, a nation of "anything goes" as long as we
win.

I cannot understand how that came about, actually.

Have our young harbored this attitude without us knowing it?

I thought we were bringing them up to be decent, honorable, human beings. We, according to the reports we have been receiving from Iraq and the prison , that we have not.
we have been ascribing to these troops, some sort of wicked, magical tinking fantasy. Ie that we are so honorable and decent that we would, indeed treat prisoners as human beings.

It seems, I have been fooling myself

If I had to raise children now, today, I would certainly not raise them to blindly support an evil man, even though he does claim he was elected a president (when he was not)

and whether or not you are for or against George W Bush.
