Did the Catholic Church ever deny Giuliani or Pataki communion?
Edited on Thu May-06-04 03:04 PM by blm
Anyone in NY have this information?

If they never sought to target them, then it should be noted that certain Catholic hierarchy are targeting Kerry ONLY for political purposes.

1. I live in NY and I have never heard of this happening
More importantly, will the Catholic Church deny communion to those who support the death penalty? The church is against that, as well.

2. I am not from New York, but I do not think so
My question is this, the Catholic church is also against the death penalty. Are they going to start denying communion to pro-Death penalty candidates. They are also against the use of contraceptives. Are they going to ask candidates to prove they have not used contraceptives in order to receive communion?

Just some thought I have.

11. Well let's look at things
They are only targeting Catholic, pro-choice politicians in 2004. Um, who could their main target be? If only there was a Catholic, pro-choice politician running for president. Oh, yeah, that's right, Kerry is a Catholic, pro-choice politician.

the Catholic Church is NOT unequivocally opposed to the Death Penalty. According to the Catechism (2266):

Preserving the common good of society requires rendering the aggressor unable to inflict harm. For this reason the traditional teaching of the Church has acknowledged as well-founded the right and duty of legitimate public authority to punish malefactors by means of penalties commensurate with the gravity of the crime, not excluding, in case of extreme gravity, the death penalty. For analogous reasons those holding authority have the right to repel by armed force aggressors against the community in their charge.

The church opposes the death penalty in SOME cases, but not all.

3. No...and this is despite their
pro-death penalty stance, a political position supposedly contrary to church doctrine.
However, it ought to be repeated no one has YET denied communion to JK...he goes to Mass every sunday and accepts the eucharist despite Archbishop O' Malley's passive aggressive insistence that the church doens' refuse communion it is the duty of the erring catholic to forego it.
Sheer piffle IMHO.

18. Absolutely, although I wouldn't attach the word "evil". The
hierarchy is greedy, power hungry and totally corrupt and would like to control the world in the same way they controlled Europe in the Middle ages.

When the hierarchy couldn't destroy the U.N. it got itself a seat by making itself into a "country", i.e., "the Holy See".

Any U.S. politician who follows the dictates of the "Holy See" should be tried for treason because that politician is acting for another country and is not adhering to the law as defined under the Constitution of the United States.

6. No.
Nor did they ever dream of it; Giuliani, especially, was very close with church leaders, publicly.

To my knowledge no one in authority in the catholic church has tried anything like this in the U.S., ever. Along with the political expedience of the move at the present time, I suspect it has a lot to do with the ways conservatives in the church feel threatened these days, and with the decline in power of the Pope - who, though very conservative indeed, had a much more refined sense of diplomacy and restraint than many of his underlings appear to.

I don't believe the Catholic Church denies communion to Schwarzenegger or to his wife either.

8. Nope. Nor does it deny it to warmongers although the pope condemned
the war in Iraq. It seems communion is a GOP privilege these days.

9. They didn't deny communion to Kerry
some bishop from the Vatican proclaimed that they should deny it, but Kerry's priest gave him communion just the same.

Just wanted to clear that up. :)

16. the hypocrisy of the church with regard to divorce hiding under the mantra
of something else, known as a dispensation or something like that, to sanctify the rich people who want to divorce, but prefer to hide it beneath the hypocrisy of the church rules. Teddy Kennedy, sorry to say, is one of those.

I think the next expose, will be one where the Catholic church is exposed for it's ridiculous, unspiritual, and political manipulations. And the degradation of the church will continue until finally as Bishop Spong in his genius has said "Christianity Must Change or Die"

20. The Vatican never ordered churches to deny communion,
it's one idiot official. Criticizing a religion because one of its higher ups is a douchebag is stupid.

22. and the answer would be no, even though Kerry is a better catholic
got an annulment instead of a divorce, goes through all our rituals, holds the sabbath, etc. While Rudy was pro-death penalty, pro-war, pro-adultery, etc.
