This editorial cartoon: Wingnut or prophetic?
via Atrios (atrios.blogspot.com)

Atrios is calling this wingnuttery at its finest (Saddam = 9/11, torture = justified), but I'm kind of wondering. One could, theoretically, read this as "we're treating these Iraqis so bad that we're going to inspire more terrorism."

Anyone know anything about this cartoonist (Jack Higgins) or his intent? His previous stuff on that site is mixed -- he nails Kerry on abortion and on his purple hearts, but Bush/Cheney on testifying together. It does seem more wingnut than not, though, but I could be wrong.

2. Definately wingnut
Message: anything goes because they ran an airliner into our building(I think it was an office building not an apartment though the finer points are obviously lost of them). So they are saying anything goes now. Facism at its finest. Gawd, those people drive me crazy!!

3. The setup suggests right wing(no pun)
The question put before our mind is What could be worse suggesting that the harm done to them pails in comparison to 9/11.

5. I think it's the ol' "tie Iraq and 9/11" together again blues....
Another piece of propganda suggesting Iraqis piloted those planes. At least that's my take.

Either that or satirizing "liberal guilt." Like the old cliche about the white liberal being mugged by a black guy and saying "I understand why you're doing this and I sympathize...."

6. Wingnut
Wait until you hear the porn industry is to blame for the behavior of those soldiers. Yep, I've heard it. They're coming out of the woodwork with excuses for this shit. Unbelievable.

11. Barf.
Thanks (everyone).

It amazes me I still occasionally see signs of intelligence where there clearly aren't any...

15. When we first turned our telescopes on Mars
We saw canals. Hundreds of canals. They ebbed and changed throughout the season. From this observation it was concluded that there must be intelligent life on Mars. Later when we improved the optics we were able to discern that the canals were just figments of our imagination. There was intellegence involved. It was just on the wrong end of the telescope and it was questionable in degree.

8. Atrios is spot-on.
The message is, "STFU about the torture. We're protecting your sorry liberal asses." Pure and simple.

The more times they repeat the same lie, the more it begins to resemble the truth.

10. And the more they strangle the truth
the sooner it dies. You can create two realities. Promote the big lie and pretty soon everyone can see the big pink elephant that isn't there. Strangle the truth and pretty soon people no longer see the 800 lb gorilla sitting in the room.

9. I read it as "This will get the news off the Torture Scandal"
 I wouldn't put it past this group of thugs to stage another attack on America just to change the discourse and to put the Fear back into America.

And I wonder if it'll hit a liberal icon (are there any?).
