They know they need to do a blood letting to save their administration, and they have determined that Rummy is the most expendible -- he's old, he's white, he's a man, and a Washington Guy. And he is also not an integral part of the PNAC plan -- he's only been part of its implementation, which he has performed, but with some reluctance.
He's also been the most public face of the war. But I think time will show that Rummy has more in common with Colin Powell than he does with Wolfowitz, and that there are people infintely more culpable than he -- like Cheney, Rice, and Wolfowitz, for starters.
Forcing Rummy to resign is mere window dressing. They had to pick a guy who was not fundamental to the PNAC plan -- and Rummy is not. He's also not black, and not a woman -- because His Chimperial Majesty needs his tokens -- not matter how pitifully incompetent they are (Rice) to show that he is not the southern sexist racist pig that he is.
Look -- if they lose the PNAC plan -- they have NO JUSTIFICATION for being in Iraq. None. As soon as *that* little bit of reality is exposed -- it's impeachment time. They have to protect that with all they've got.
They're hoping that the controversial Rumsfeld will be a sufficient offering.
But we all know that he is just a small part of the problem.
There is no cancer on this presidency. It is instead wholly malignant, and been so from Day 1.
All we are saying is give impeachment a chance.
