BBC just said Colin Powell's aid denounced Paul Wolfowitz.
One more insider decides to break from the Junta's war criminals.

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=518622

...
Equally plain is the Secretary of State's disdain for the so-called "chickenhawks," in Mr Wilkerson's words, "people who have never been in the face of battle, who are making cavalier decisions about sending men and women out to die."

The chief of staff mentions by name Richard Perle, the former close adviser to the Pentagon, and Paul Wolfowitz, the deputy Secretary of Defense. "I call them utopians.. I don't care whether utopians are Vladimir Lenin in a sealed train or Paul Wolfowitz. You're never going to bring utopia and you're going to hurt a lot of people in the process of trying to do it."

2. Powell is singin'
Mr Powell's deputy, Richard Armitage, remarks on his boss's anguish at the damage to his credibility following his speech to the United Nations last year making the case for war and insisting there were weapons of mass destruction. "It's a source of great distress for the secretary," he said.

Meanwhile his mentor from the National War College, Harlan Ullman, describes the US national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, as a "jerk".
-snip-
Mr Wilkerson even makes jibes at the war record of Mr Bush's inner circle, comparing their desire for military conflict with their reluctance to serve as young men: "I make no bones about it. I have some reservations about people who have never been in the face of battle, so to speak, who are making cavalier decisions about sending men and women out to die."

He then goes on to name former neo-conservative adviser, Richard Perle. He said: "Thank God tendered his resignation and no longer will be even a semi-official person in this administration."

May just be you and me awake just now -- but it looks like Meltdown in occuring.

Nothing that is happening -- Powell feeling used and remorseful, Rice being called a jerk , Perle gratefully acknowledged as GONE -- comes as a surprise to DUers -- maybe just to the mainstream media, and hopefully to the --incomprehensibly! -- undecideds.

Interesting week.

Burn baby burn.

3. "anguish at the damage to his credibility "
No anguish at the men and women who would die or be maimed for his lies. Self-interest is his only concern.

Powell is a pig.

He was in front of the UN. He could have told the truth. It never occurred to him.

4. He has always been over rated.

He is really just a water carrier for empire.

It would be great to see him give up a whole life
of towing the party line and attack Bush directly.

If he did that history may have a favorable word for
him as something other than the man who pimped lies
disgracing the nation and disgusting the world.

8. Not to defend Powell, because I have lost respect for him
but in either this article, or GQ, it says he is upset by the deaths & injuries, & that is why he was not gung ho on this war.

It probably weighs on his conscience every time a GI is hurt or killed. But it does not seem to bother anyone else in the Administration.

7. Perhaps he regrets his Faustian bargain & is hoping...
...to retrieve his soul. By going public with what he knows (and he knows plenty) it's possible he may do so. Just leaking things through subordinates won't do it. He has to help clean up the godawful mess he helped create by playing enabler to the Bushites.

If he can't or won't, he'll wander offstage a tragic figure of what might have been a great man.

9. Too late.
"It would be great to see him give up a whole life
of towing the party line and attack Bush directly."

If he had been a man of honor he would have resigned right when they asked him to deliver the lies to the UN.

He has disgraced himself. Now he is trying to backpeddle because he wants distance from the NeoFascists so he can move on to his new job as Pres. of the World Bank.

10. Interesting so he is behaving more like a rat on a sinking ship...
getting ready to jump to a life raft at the World Bank.

I guess the World Bank will suit him better they try
hard to maintain appearances while subjugating people.

11. Powell is responsible for his own actions...
...and that includes his decision to aid and support those "cavalier decisions" by "people who have never been in the face of battle" instead of refusing to be part of it and resign.
