Something I don't get about the Michael Moore story
Two questions I guess...

Didn't Disney know already what the movie was going to be about?

Why did Moore put himself in a position where Disney, not known for progressivism,
could block his movie?

5. that's kind of what it seems like
I remember at one time he was talking about a release on Election Day, which didn't make sense.

2. disney is saying today
that moore's known all along they wouldn't allow miramax distribution... the argument being he's doing this as a publicity stunt... not sure what's really goin' on.

6. That makes no sense?
Why would the buy a project they knew they would shelve? That is actionable for sure if they did. Moore could sue for the lot.

3. Controversy is good publicity
And who likes controversy more than Michael Moore? Disney/Miramax are probably in on it. I don't know...the whole thing smells fishy to me...too obvious. They'll probably end up distributing anyway after a big hullabaloo. And in the meantime, expose Jeb's crooked dealings.

And this is probably their plan all along. Are you kidding? You think Disney/Miramax are going to let Moore shop his controversy- packed movie to another distributor? And lose out? I don't think so.

4. it's a hell of a country
when one of the largest media companies won't release a non-fiction film because they fear financial retribution by the family that heads the country.

toto, i don't think we're in america anymore.

18. Precisely
If this is an attempt to rock corporate america's "foundations", by pointing out firsthand how biased and how much control they moneymakers have got, I'm all for it. A million billion percent.

8. They can't.
He's going to find another distributor, and it will be easy, considering all the massive free publicity Disney has just given him.

9. The Disney decision effects only North American distribution.
F911 will be released around the rest of the world before the election.

Don't forget that Moore thought he had Mel Gibson lined up to finance the film. When he pulled out, Moore had to scramble to find a backer if he was to have any chance of releasing the film BEFORE the election. When Miramax jumped in, Moore went for it, probably hoping to negotiate a pre-election release from Disney.

It all depends on the contractual obligations. At this point, it looks like a PR stunt.

12. does the Jeb story make sense to you?
Moore seems just to be speculating. If there's evidence of this, I bet it would be impeachable, so Moore should provide it so we can get rid of Jeb.

Has Moore talked about suing?

it makes all the sense... disney just took the first shot not in court, but in the court of public opinion

Contact Florida papers and let them know you will not do any business in the state UNITL they call their governor to accountablity

16. DUers are not very receptive to this idea. I thought it would be
appropriate so that they realize that electing troglodytes who hurt the entire nation shouldn't be done.

13. It is real interesting that they mention Jeb in the Press Release
Was it in "Stupid White Men" that Michael told the story about running into Jeb at a speaking engagement at the college in Florida before the 2000 election. (a creepy encounter)
Still it's odd that Disney put Jeb in the middle of this and putting the blame on him.

17. Legal conflict seemes to make for better sales
Moore found this out when they refused to publish Stupid White Men and it was confirmed when Fox sued Franken over Lies.
