!?total insanity - US soldier at prison takes pictures of nude US female
Edited on Wed May-05-04 07:05 PM by bobbieinok
soldiers showering.

This is at very end of MSNBC's online article about Bush on ME TV and demands for investigation, etc. Long article.

For some reason, I am unable to cut and paste the last 4 paragraphs where this additional story is reported.

1. There are plenty of US women troops getting raped
by US male troops back here in the states. So I don't see why this would be surprising.

9.  California National Guard commander/ financial analyst is photo pervert?
Edited on Wed May-05-04 07:41 PM by papau
Prisoners were punched, slapped and kicked. In some cases, soldiers jumped on their naked feet.Male and female detainees were left naked for days at a time. Some were videotaped and photographed, an especially degrading experience for Muslims who regard being photographed as a sin. Some were forcibly arranged in various sexually explicit positions for the photographs.Naked male prisoners were forced to wear women’s underwear. Others were forced to perform sexual acts upon themselves while being photographed. One naked prisoner was forced to stand on a box with a sandbag on his head. Wires were attached to his fingers, toes and penis to simulate electric torture. A male military police guard had sex with a female prisoner.

AND NOW MEDIA IS REPORTED THAT VIDEO IS AVAILABLE!!!!

Separately, defense officials said the commander of one of the military police units at Abu Ghraib was under investigation for allegations that he secretly photographed naked female U.S. soldiers.

The officer, Capt. Leo Merck, 32, of Fremont, Calif., a member of the California National Guard who worked as a financial analyst

2. Relevant paragraphs follow.
Separately, defense officials said the commander of one of the military police units at Abu Ghraib was under investigation for allegations that he secretly photographed naked female U.S. soldiers.

The officer, Capt. Leo Merck, 32, of Fremont, Calif., a member of the California National Guard who worked as a financial analyst before going to Iraq, is suspected of photographing the soldiers as they showered at the prison, the officials said.

Three female soldiers filed the accusations in November, the Contra Costa (Calif.) Times reported Wednesday. Lt. Michael Drayton, who took over as commander of the 870th Military Police Company after Merck was relieved, said Merck faced a court-martial in Kuwait.

Grim and grimmer--what is the mindset of our representatives over there?

3. The shame just goes on and on
Edited on Wed May-05-04 07:03 PM by boobooday
Could it be that a bunch of poorly trained people were sent on a vague mission and supervised by people who are in the business of PROFITTING from interrogating people? What the hell kind of shady business is that?

The military sucks for that -- they treat women like "human capital" of a multiply disposable kind.

8. Ummm...
The military treats everyone as if they're expendable because according to the situation; they can be. Regulations are not going to undo over 4 billion years of evolutionary biology. When I was in the Army in 1988, there were rapes at Ft. Sam Houston. The officers, of course, said that people were coming into the base from outside, but we all knew it was soldiers raping other soldiers. I hate to put it so bluntly, but as long as there are women in the military, there will be rapes occurring. It's not right or acceptable, but it will continue to go on. Men want to have sex with women and there are some who will use force to achieve that end.

12. Wait a minute.
"Men want to have sex with women and there are some..."

It seems to me to be a power thing. No man would rape or in any way assault another person whom he saw as a colleague. These rapists are putting their victims in "their place". Some men don't like having women in the boy's club. They have to adjust, they have to compete. They can do neither, so they strike out at that which they perceive to be the source of their discomfort in a criminal, aggressive, and very personal way.

Men want to have sex with women? I hope so. Real men don't use force to achieve it.

7. Someone today (talking head or politician)???, don't remember, said
that the abuse cases were undoubtedly only the tip of the iceberg and more things would surface now. They said that first were the "reports" that the Pentagon (and Bush) had and then someone got photos and therefore, said this was a leak and it was from either the White House OR DOD. I thought that that might be what happened because it seems like such a lag between report and photos. Also, it pissed me off that by tonight a lot of the media is no longer talking about Bush having the info part for several months. Gee I guess that might make people upset; and we can't have that, can we?? I hope whomever did this has a ton of crap to leak and leaks like a sive.

10. This is proof of "why they hate us" We are reprobate!
And this is the true character of America...else Bush would not be in office now. Remember, it wasn't so long ago that a President was receiving a bl*w job in the Oval Office and we were all saying that was a trivial matter. Well, maybe so to us, but not to the fundie Islamists.

14. ?????
Umm, is this a variation of "it's Clinton's fault because he had oral sex???""

Wow, how much head-spinning must that take?

Bill and Monica were none of anybody's business but their own and their own family's. How on earth can anybody "equate" this consensual act with the sexual abuse of prisoners and the non-consensual invasion of several women's privacy?

Are there really people so dense that they think there is a connection?

Or do they just keep repeating it over and over, hoping eventually it will sink in out of sheer repetition?

11. the fish rots from the head
The leadership sets the tone in any organization.

Bush, thumbing his nose at the law, being "above the law", has set the tone for the troops to do whatever the hell they feel like.
