Daily U.S. Casualties
8/9/2003
As of Friday, 257 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the military.

The British government has reported 43 deaths.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 119 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest military figures.

The latest deaths reported by U.S. Central Command:

A 4th Infantry Division soldier died Friday while sleeping at a base camp in the town of Kirkush, Iraq.

An 82nd Airborne Division soldier died Thursday from a gunshot wound received while on guard duty in Baghdad.
The latest identifications from the military:

Army Pvt. Kyle C. Gilbert, 20, Brattleboro, Vt.; died Wednesday in Baghdad from injuries received when an Iraqi vehicle opened fire on his unit; assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Army Sgt. Leonard D. Simmons, 33, New Bern, N.C.; died Wednesday of a non-combat related cause in Mosul, Iraq; assigned to C Company, 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

1. Have you been able to find the number killed on the DoD site?
I have been trying to keep track, but I've only found "second hand" information from various web sites, some of whom don't always agree with one another.

I have found a list of those killed on the DoD site, but no total listed.

3. Is anyone tracking the wounded?
I've seen estimates of 900+ to several thousand. Whatever the number, it ought to be rubbed in Bush's face every bloody morning.
