Somebody needs to tell George Soros about me
The group plans a $75 million effort to defeat Bush and "elect progressive officials at every level in 2004," targeting 17 key states: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

I think I may have a nice contribution to my campaign, if I can just get this guy to notice me.

After all, as you all know, I'm a progressive. And I am running in Ohio for US HORepresentatives.....

Yoo hoo, Mr. Soros! Have ACT contact me, please?????

Does anybody know a way to contact Mr. Soros to show him my bio and ask for help getting elected????

1. Unless you are independently wealthy
or in a targeted competive seat, don't expect much help from the party either. Note, this is just an observation from watching my local House races in 2002 from an insider position.

Go out and work hard. Also, remember you are in it for the good fight as much as winning.

I will also send you a little something in the next few months. However, I am not Soros.

:)

2. I was hoping for advice from you
I've got the account and PayPal attached to it, notified the FEC about the account, and notified my tax attorney to be ready with any questions I may have.

I'm not counting on the Party's help...but the Party has members who have promised individual fundraisers that will help out.

5. A few things

1. Take all the free (and earned) media that you can. There will be enough of this to keep you mega-busy. Plus, your incumbent opponent more than likely won't show.

2. Speak and visit everywhere you can. There were some days I had 3-4 appearances in a huge FL legislative district.

3. You will have to whore for money. There is no better way to put it. Learn who your friends are PACS, and Unions and lobby them with a full-court press. This will mean investing a good deal of time in tedious interviews, but that's where the bulk of your money will come from.

4. Always ask for money. Print contribution envelopes now, even if you do it DIY. Take them everywhere you go and ask for individual help. Make sure you print them with spots so the individual can write down the appropriate Federal information. You will soon feel like a televangelist (remember in a way you are).

5. Unless you are loaded, don't worry about consultants. Take any free help the party gives you.

6. If you are not already, expect to become manic-depressive for the duration. The campaign process is a roller coaster. Make sure to make a little sanity time for yourself. If you are employed the last 8 weeks of the campaign, you will have it rough. If you can take leave, plan on doing it. Otherwise, it will be BRUTAL.

7. Let your campaign help come to you. You will meet lots of people interested and wanting to help. Use them, you can't do it all. A manager/scheduler is a MUST. You will more than likely not even remember where it is you are supposed to be.

8. Make sure you have plans. What do you do if you actually win? What happens when you lose?

I should probably write a book, but that's another story.

Your advice is quite sound and I take the opportunity to advise AWD to heed it well.

I, too, have been on the inside of these things and it is all true.

AWD, remember Jeffersons, words: (to paraphrase) ..by the time a man does what is necessary to obtain public office, he is no longer worthy of it...."

For me, governing was the fun part, whoring myself in a campaign was distasteful, but necessary so I COULD govern.

4. the only way for you to get dem $
is to get your campaign 'targeted' by your state party. you do this by organizing and hosting your state-level dems' media events, at which you 'piggyback' your presence with so-and-so (known name candidate or stumper), your press releases and your media advisories. if your staff is good enough, the state capitol political news wire will pick up your stories; and if state party types see your campaign mentioned enough times, they'll 'target' you with cash and staff help. the buzz will excite the national party if you're lucky.
