1. Conventional wisdom
is that there are a lot of Dems that only vote in Presidential elections every four years. This was the case a twenty years ago when I got my PoliSci degree.

2. Probably
Let's hope next November they come out full force. I've been to chat rooms where former repugs are vowing to vote anyone but shrub!

3. I'd say in general, dems go to the polls more but vote less on party lines
then repubs (on greens for example). Just a guess, though.

4. Actually, it's kinda the opposite
Registered Republicans generally vote more than registered Democrats, but there are more registered Democrats and people who identify themselves with the Democratic party.
This is why when people vote, it's usually to the Democrats advantage- there are more of them :D
I got this from my Government textbook...

5. That's what I meant about "going to the polls more",
The original question was a bit ambiguous. Indeed there are more dems than repubs. I just think dems have a tendency to sway towards more idealistic canidates like greens, ect.

6. Mmm, maybe
Then again, the right has several fringe factions that always suck up some Republican votes, ala Perot (which helped get Clinton elected).
I can't say I have any numbers to back my claim, but it seems to me that it's pretty equal both ways. I mean, I don't know many Democrats who voted for Nader- I know a few Greens that voted for Gore, though.
Is that what you're talking about?

7. do Repubs go to polls more than dems?
It just so happens Hardball with Chris Matthews had a portion of their program on this very subject. They had a survey in which they
asked people are you democrat, lean democrat Republican lean Republican. Their findings indicate there are more Dems than Republicans but sthe intensity for support of their party goes to Republicans. Republicans are more active and more apt to vote than
Democrats.
